Position Summary
The Fire Protection Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing fire prevention and protection strategies across building systems, industrial facilities, and infrastructure projects. This role ensures compliance with local, state, and federal fire codes while applying engineering principles to reduce fire risk and enhance life safety. A valid Fire Safety Certificate is required.
Key Responsibilities
Fire Protection System Design
- Design and review fire suppression, detection, alarm, and smoke control systems, including sprinklers, clean-agent systems, and fire pumps.
- Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations for fire protection systems.
- Evaluate building layouts to ensure compliance with NFPA, IBC, IFC, and other applicable codes.
- Conduct fire hazard analyses, fire modeling, and risk assessments for new and existing facilities.
- Identify potential fire hazards and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Perform egress analysis and life safety evaluations.
- Interpret and apply fire codes, standards, and regulations.
- Prepare technical reports, code compliance documentation, and engineering assessments.
- Coordinate with local fire authorities and regulatory agencies for permits and inspections.
- Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of fire protection systems.
- Conduct site inspections to verify compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
- Provide technical guidance to contractors, architects, and project managers.
- Develop fire safety plans, evacuation procedures, and emergency response protocols.
- Deliver fire safety training to employees and building occupants.
- Participate in incident investigations and recommend corrective actions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Valid Fire Safety Certificate.
- Knowledge of NFPA standards, building codes, and fire protection engineering principles.
- Experience with fire modeling software such as FDS or Pathfinder is beneficial.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Fire Protection or the ability to obtain one.
- Three to seven years of experience in fire protection engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience in industrial, commercial, or government facility fire protection.
- Familiarity with BIM tools such as Revit or AutoCAD.
