Job Description
The Environmental Project Manager leads complex environmental remediation and investigation projects from initiation through closure, with a strong focus on groundwater investigations and substantial remedial cleanup efforts. This role manages multiple concurrent projects, ensures full regulatory compliance with NJDEP requirements, and oversees the preparation and review of technical reports such as RA, RI, and RAR documentation. The position is highly client-facing, requiring frequent interaction with clients and executives while coordinating multidisciplinary technical and field teams to deliver high-quality, on-time, and on-budget project outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Manage environmental projects from initiation through closure, including planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout activities.
- Oversee and manage Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and remediation projects, with a particular focus on groundwater investigations and six‑figure remedial cleanup projects.
- Prepare, review, and/or oversee the development of RA (Remedial Action), RI (Remedial Investigation), and RAR (Remedial Action Report) documentation in accordance with NJDEP requirements.
- Coordinate and lead internal technical and field teams, ensuring effective collaboration and clear communication across multidisciplinary groups.
- Interface directly with NJDEP to ensure regulatory compliance, address questions, and support permitting and approval processes.
- Maintain and control project schedules, budgets, and scope, proactively managing risks, changes, and issues to keep projects on track.
- Serve as the primary client-facing contact, building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, including interaction with executives and CEOs.
- Provide oversight, coordination, and reporting across technical and field teams, ensuring accurate, timely, and high-quality deliverables.
- Develop and review technical reports, findings, and recommendations, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with regulatory standards and client expectations.
- Support and mentor team members by sharing technical expertise, project management best practices, and regulatory knowledge.
- Collaborate with colleagues in a team-based environment to support company-wide goals and contribute to a positive, cooperative culture.
- Manage a typical workload of approximately 5 to 15 concurrent projects, prioritizing tasks and resources effectively.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of environmental project management experience, with an ideal profile closer to 15 years.
- Strong in environmental remediation and investigation, including Phase I and Phase II ESAs.
- Proven experience managing groundwater investigations and significant remedial cleanup projects.
- Demonstrated experience preparing, reviewing, and overseeing RA, RI, and RAR documentation.
- Established NJDEP experience, including direct interface and regulatory compliance work.
- Strong project management skills, including schedule, budget, and scope management across multiple concurrent projects.
- Proven ability to manage and coordinate technical and field teams effectively.
- Client-facing experience, including direct interaction with clients, executives, and CEOs.
- Excellent written communication skills, including clear and concise technical report writing.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Parsippany, NJ.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $48.00 - $58.00/hr.
