This role focuses on optimizing utility performance, improving energy efficiency, and driving sustainability initiatives across electrical, mechanical, and utility infrastructure. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, hands‑on troubleshooting ability, and a passion for reducing energy consumption and carbon footprint.

Role Overview

As a Facilities Engineer II, you will oversee the performance, reliability, and efficiency of campus‑wide utilities—including electrical distribution, HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, compressed air, cooling towers, and building automation systems. You will lead energy‑reduction initiatives, support capital planning, and ensure that all facility assets operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards.

This role is fully onsite in Irvine, CA, Monday–Friday (1st shift), with occasional overtime or off‑shift support based on business needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a campus‑wide decarbonization and energy strategy for a 50‑acre site.
  • Identify, prioritize, and implement carbon‑reduction and energy‑efficiency capital projects.
  • Partner with Project Engineering to review new equipment installations and ensure reliability, maintainability, and compliance.
  • Recommend and lead utility improvement projects within the central utility plant and distribution network.
  • Present energy‑reduction strategies and project updates to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with Maintenance, Engineering, Manufacturing, and external utility partners.
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency with major utility systems: steam boilers, chiller plants, compressed air, HVAC, and water distribution.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate standards, safety protocols, site procedures, and GxP requirements.
  • Develop and enforce Asset Operations Plans and Asset Maintenance Plans to maximize equipment life and performance.
  • Apply Life Cycle Asset Management (LCAM) principles and conduct root cause failure analysis (RCFA).
  • Analyze asset performance using metrics such as OEE, MTBF, and remaining useful life.
  • Create value‑added preventive maintenance tasks and determine optimal predictive maintenance methods.
  • Establish a proactive risk‑management approach to mitigate operational and reliability risks.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies (OSHA, FDA, EPA, etc.).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in facilities engineering, utilities, or a mechanical/electrical environment.
  • Hands‑on troubleshooting experience with mechanical and/or electrical systems.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze technical data.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to convey technical concepts across functions.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing or supporting ISO 50001 energy‑management programs.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Lean methodology experience.
  • FMEA experience and strong root‑cause problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
  • Experience with BMS/automation systems and system integration.

Work Environment

  • Onsite role (no remote options).
  • Office and team‑based environment with regular interaction across engineering and operations.
  • Standard schedule: Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm, with flexibility for business needs.
