Job Title: Electromechanical Technician – High-Power Prototyping

Job Description

This role focuses on hands-on high-power electronics prototyping, including precision PCB rework, cable and panel assembly, and safe operation of high-voltage, high-power test equipment in a prototyping lab. You will collaborate closely with electrical, mechanical, and test engineers to build, test, and bring up hardware that supports advanced solar power, inverter, and storage systems.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and test engineers to support development and prototyping of high-power electronic systems.
  • Perform soldering and rework of fine-pitch components, including 0402 surface-mount devices, using a microscope and appropriate tools.
  • Build and wire electrical panels, test fixtures, and cable assemblies from engineering drawings and documentation.
  • Assemble and terminate cables, including cutting, stripping, crimping, and creating complete cable assemblies and harnesses.
  • Work with the mechanical aspects of builds, including chassis assembly, mounting components, and integrating busbars and other hardware.
  • Operate high-voltage (greater than 1 kV) and high-power (greater than 10 kW) test equipment safely, following established procedures and using required personal protective equipment.
  • Support testing and bring-up of hardware using standard lab equipment such as multimeters and power supplies.
  • Read and interpret schematics to connect components, replace components, and perform PCB rework accurately.
  • Conduct testing around PCBs and electronics, including functional checks and basic troubleshooting.
  • Accurately record test data, measurements, and observations during lab testing and communicate results to the engineering team.
  • Follow all lab safety guidelines, high-voltage handling procedures, and documentation standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of prototyping, assembly, and test processes by providing feedback to engineers.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience as an electronics technician or in a similar role.
  • Experience with high-power electronics, ideally working with voltages around 480V AC/DC or higher, and comfortable with systems up to and above 1000V.
  • Proficiency in soldering and reworking PCBs, including fine-pitch components and small packages such as 0402, preferably under a microscope.
  • Demonstrated experience building and wiring electrical panels, test fixtures, and cable assemblies from drawings and documentation.
  • Strong mechanical skills related to building cables and chassis, including crimping, routing, and creating complete assemblies.
  • Ability to read and work from schematics and technical drawings to connect and replace components correctly.
  • Hands-on experience with PCB rework, including removing and replacing components and verifying connections.
  • Experience operating standard electronics lab equipment such as multimeters, power supplies, and related test tools.
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures for safe operation of high-voltage and high-power test equipment and use of personal protective equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when recording test data and observations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with microcontrollers and FPGA-based systems.
  • Background in testing PCBs and electronic assemblies, including functional and bring-up testing.
  • Familiarity with high-power electronics concepts such as AC/DC conversion, busbars, and power distribution.
  • Comfort working with high-power and high-voltage systems used in solar, inverter, or energy storage applications.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional engineering environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on approach to troubleshooting hardware issues.

Work Environment

This position is fully onsite, Monday through Friday, working in a dedicated prototyping lab environment. You will work directly with lab test equipment, including high-voltage and high-power systems, standard electronics test instruments such as multimeters and power supplies, and tools for soldering, crimping, and cable assembly. The lab environment emphasizes safety, especially around high-voltage equipment, and requires consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment and adherence to established procedures. The role supports innovative solar tracker, inverter, and storage system development, offering exposure to cutting-edge renewable energy hardware in a hands-on, collaborative setting
