Chemical Operator
Job Description
The Chemical Operator is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of food safety, security, and quality are met in compliance with GMPs, HACCP, and allergen regulations. The role includes certification in operating all blending equipment and ensuring the integrity of products based on specifications. The operator duplicates and communicates safety and manufacturing practices per company policies, ensuring customer satisfaction with juice quality.
Responsibilities
- Transport required ingredients and pre-weighs from the staging area to the blending area.
- Monitor and incorporate push outs and Dump to Bulk (DTB) back into the system.
- Hook up hoses, pumps, and lines for bulk concentrate or juice transfers from proper silo storage tanks.
- Maintain, build, and start up filters, open drums, and inspect filter blankets for damage.
- Program touch screens for product delivery from silo rooms to blend tanks.
- Follow instructions on blending sheets, add proper ingredients, and record amounts correctly.
- Obtain blend tank samples for quality lab testing and make necessary adjustments.
- Complete blending sheets accurately and forward documentation to the QA/Blending department.
- Maintain sanitation and cleanliness of the area throughout the shift.
- Perform CIP sanitation of all blending lines, tanks, and equipment.
- Remove empty barrels and bins from batching area to outside storage.
- Receive and unload tankers of bulk concentrates as needed.
- Report non-compliance, product protection, and food safety issues to management.
- Represent the company positively and perform other duties as assigned by management.
Essential Skills
- Experience in manufacturing, production, and compounding environments.
- Ability to lift heavy items routinely (up to 60lbs).
- Strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency in batch record management and adherence to quality standards.
- Solid mathematical skills including measurements and formulas.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in fast-moving packaged goods or beverage production preferred.
- Formal training in WHIMIS, HACCP, and Hygiene is preferred.
- Certification may be required.
- Understanding of production schedules and laboratory testing.
- Ability to work effectively under high stress/pressure environments.
- Knowledge of quality improvement and efficiency enhancement.
Work Environment
The role is based in the Quality Department within a manufacturing setting, with work hours from 2pm to 10pm, Monday to Friday, and some Saturdays based on production needs. The environment is dynamic, requiring adherence to safety and sanitation protocols.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.50 - $20.00/hr.
