Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist with a minimum of 2 years of recent experience in phlebotomy, including strong skills in using straight needles. The ideal candidate will be bilingual, with Spanish-speaking abilities, and will demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and strong communication skills. Familiarity with different color tubes and tests is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection procedures as required.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
- Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport.
- Store specimen samples according to required temperature, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label, and follow specific protocols for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
Essential Skills
- Minimum 1 year of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English.
- Strong communication skills.
- Reliable and punctual.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Knowledge of different color tubes and related tests.
Work Environment
The position is based in a Patient Service Center (PSC) located in Jackson Heights, Queens. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm, with rotating Saturdays from 8 am to 5 pm.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elmhurst, New York.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
