Asbestos Analysts

Our environmental testing laboratory offers multiple opportunities for experienced Polarized Light Microscopy analysts. The laboratory provides a range of services, including asbestos testing, chemistry and lead analysis, microbiology identification, and forensic testing. We are seeking long-term hires to support our growing workload due to recent expansion.

Responsibilities

• Process, document, and prepare samples for analysis.
• Analyze bulk and thin section slides for asbestos mineral fibers using Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM).
• Determine optical properties and visual percentages for detected asbestos grains.
• Quantify asbestos presence and identify additional natural or artificial sample components.
• Document asbestos findings and characteristics within a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• Implement and adhere to quality control procedures.
• Follow laboratory safety protocols.
• Comply with EPA standards for asbestos identification.

• Undergraduate degree in Geology, Environmental Sciences, or related science, or completion of a PLM Asbestos training course.
• 2 years of PLM experience in asbestos testing.
• Adherence to lab safety protocols and implementation of safety measures such as fume hoods, PPE, and sample containment.

• Courses in mineralogy, petrology, sedimentology, or materials science.
• Experience as a research assistant or involvement in undergraduate research involving metamorphic petrology, microscopy sample preparation, and mineral identification.

Work alongside approximately 20 individuals, most of whom are trainees, in a lab divided into three sections: prep, electron microscope, and polarized light. Analysts will move around the lab conducting various analysis procedures. The company offers opportunities for upward mobility and exposure to top-of-the-line industry equipment.

This is a Permanent position based out of North Chesterfield, VA.

The pay range for this position is $46000.00 - $52000.00/yr.
