Overview:
ACS Professional Staffing is looking for an employee to work on-site with our client. This System Administrator 2 will manage LAN/WAN and Packet/MPLS transport systems, provisioning switches, routers, and related equipment. The role includes collaborating with technical teams on design and O&M tasks, ensuring network reliability, and documenting architectures and procedures. Responsibilities also cover troubleshooting, compliance support, and secure network operations. This full-time position is located in Spokane, WA.
Pay Rate:$38.87 - $55.53

Responsibilities:
- Support System Operations with O&M and project tasks primarily focusing on LAN/WAN and Packet/MPLS Transport Systems. Tasks include provisioning switches and routers, and Packet Transport Systems (OMET, NGT, etc.) equipment.
- Collaborate with Planning, Design, Construction, and Field Maintenance organizations to address O&M issues and understand their needs in developing and completing projects. Tasks include:
- Active participation in meetings and completing tasks that are either assigned or volunteered.
- Assist in system design and O&M issues of telecommunications backbone with a focus on Packet Transport Systems and WAN with mission critical reliability requirements, to include the infrastructure support systems. Tasks include:
- Document architectural designs using Visio,
- Evaluate systems design with a FISMA/NERC CIP perspective.
- Work with diverse teams to complete schedule driven targets.
- Work to validate MoPs created by subcontractor including high level planning MoPs and low level circuit MoPs
- Provide clear documentation for training proposes after project tasks related to Packet Transport Systems and WAN are completed. Tasks include using training documents to train personnel and completing knowledge transfers with staff oversight.
- Under the guidance of staff, test and develop procedures to publish for compliance and telecom operations. Tasks include working on FISMA/NERC CIP documents related to devices used on the telecom packet transport backbone and endpoints. This includes working with compliance teams to meet schedule driven targets.
- Meet project timelines and milestones, supply deliverables, and provide status updates as requested. Tasks include workload tracking, producing diagram drawings of completed work, and workload balancing.
- Represent System Operations in technical work groups, such as Equipment Specifications, Maintenance Standards & Procedures, New Systems / Equipment Evaluation, as requested. Tasks include active participation in meetings with organizations within the company, verifying that operational standards are understood and communicate results of meetings with operational staff.
- Attend and communicate information from technical work groups to team lead to coordinate a group strategy. Tasks include participating in the Project Review and Design process and strategic planning.
- Collaborate with the team and management, working to prevent accidental system outages or problems.
- Analyze information and use logic to address work related issues and problems, with understanding of impact on current and future programs and processes.
- Provide technical evaluation and participate in the evaluation process of control system technologies.
- Assist management with drafting/developing compliance processes and developing evidence to meet NERC CIP and FISMA standards.
- Assist JTO Lead Engineer and Information System Security Officers in roll-out of all Network Security projects.
- Assist Control Center craftsmen and engineers with the RSA one-time password authentication appliance, Cisco Secure Access Control Server (CSACS), Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE), and Authentication Authorization & Accounting (AAA) Systems. Perform server administration, including the installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting equipment in the area of responsibilities.
- Monitor SolarWinds & work with both control centers, Field Engineers & craftsmen to troubleshoot any potential issue.
- Assist Control-Center/Field Craftsmen/Engineers in network integration tasks by completing device turn-up checklists.
- Develop test plans for project certification using best practices.
- Review and evaluate design packages (including drawings, material certifications, and submittals for conformance to the design specifications).
- Coordinate and actively participate with technical team.
- Work safely and demonstrate safety awareness practices to facilitate environmental stewardship. Tasks include active participation in safety meetings, completion of safety training courses, identifying safety issues, and communicating issues to management.
- Mark documents and maintain filing system(s), files, emails, and records in accordance with compliance requirements. Share and disperse documents only to appropriate personnel (those with a Lawful Government Purpose (LGP) to know). Mark and maintain all official records in accordance with the Information Security (INFOSEC) and Information Governance & Lifecycle Management (IGLM) standards and procedures. Validate official records are accurately maintained for auditing purposes.
Requirements:
- An associate or bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a directly related technical discipline is preferred.
- 3 years of experience is required with an applicable associate or bachelor’s degree in applicable fields.
- 5 years of experience is required without a degree or applicable degree.
- Experience must include direct work experience in Information Technology performing System Administration.
- Applicable certifications may count for 1 year of experience.
- Applicable certifications include:
- Cisco certifications like CCNA/CCNP, Nokia NRS1/NRS2
- Linux administrator certifications like, but not limited, Linux Professional Institute LPIC-1, Red Hat Certified System Administrator, CompTIA Linux , Oracle Certified Professional Oracle Linux 8 System Administrator
- Microsoft Windows Server certifications
- Database Certifications like Oracle Database SQL Certified Associate, Oracle Database Administration Certified Professional
- Knowledge and practical experience in telecommunications and network systems administration, including:
- Core Data Networking: TCP/IP, UDP/IP, DNS, DHCP, FTP/SFTP.
- Advanced Layer 2: STP/RSTP, VLANs, QinQ, LAG.
- Advanced Layer 3: MPLS, LDP, RSVP, L2VPN (VPLS & VPWS), and L3 VPN
- Experience applying technical evaluation and evaluation process of control system technologies.
- Experience in performing IT administration and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge and experience with best practice test plan development for project certification.
- Experience leading project teams developing telecommunications transport systems.
- Leadership skills in developing teamwork between different organizational boundaries.
- Developing compliance processes and evidence to meet NERC CIP and FISMA standards.
- Experience with Linux administration
- Cisco layer three expertise: Cisco certifications such as CCNP security.
- Nokia Routing certifications such as NRS1/NRS2.
- Carrier Ethernet technology, Packet Transport Systems, and traffic engineering.
- Network Operations Center (NOC) experience.
- Virtual Private Networks and router encryption.
- SolarWinds – System which manages routers and switches through the Network Management System (NMS).
- Relevant work experience in IP/MPLS transport networks
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License is required.
