Job Summary: The Electrical Production Manager is responsible for leading a department of electricians tasked with the installation of electrical systems, instrumentation, and automation devices, for large industrial generator enclosures and switch gears. The Electrical Production Manager ensures compliance with all electrical codes, customer requirements and specifications. This role will manage all electrical production employees and the processes that are utilized to run the electrical systems integration operations effectively and efficiently.
Job Responsibilities/Duties:
- Ensure the adherence to health and safety practices and policies. Implement and maintain the department’s safety program.
- Create a positive environment that motivates the staff to increase their safety, quality, and productivity, and meet product delivery goals.
- Prepare daily production schedules, workflows, and electrical team assignments.
- Effectively communicate with internal departments on electrical production goals, statuses, and anticipated completion timeframes.
- Maintain operational and installation consistency, quality, and cost controls.
- Exercise strong leadership skills; excel at selecting, training, and motivating an effective and efficient electrical systems integration staff.
- Evaluate employee performances. Provide effective employee coaching, recognition, promotions, compensation, and properly document dismissals, as necessary.
- Oversee the successful completion of all electrical jobs by identifying requirements, communicating to proper personnel, and ensuring compliance throughout the entire electrical systems integration production cycle.
- Review the electrical team performance and implement needed changes to improve quality and efficiency. Eliminate and reduce any disturbances to the flow (DTF’s).
- Set and maintain safety, quality, and productivity performance metrics. Meet established performance goals for the department. Establish, maintain, and report the Electrical Systems Integration organization’s KPI’s.
- Assist the materials management and control groups in the selection of electrical components and the timely availability of materials needed to meet production deadlines.
- Monitor and provide daily electrical systems integration production status reports for all jobs.
- Develop operational plans to flex electrical systems integration capacity and associated resources.
- Identify, evaluate, and select optimal electrical contract manufacturing services. Manage the electrical sub-contractors, to include job scheduling, service costs, and contractual agreements.
- Improve policies and procedures to create a more structured accountability among the electrical teams and management staff.
- Follow and enforce all established corporate policies, procedures, and recognized practices.
- Establish the daily electrical production schedule; assign and oversee all electrical production teams. Exercise detailed production control actions to ensure all jobs are progressing according to schedule and completion requirements.
- Establish training programs to increase the electrical skill sets of the department employees. Build the leadership skills of the supervisors and team leads.
- Implement and support the corporate 5S 1 program.
- Schedule and provide the necessary staffing levels for expedited electrical jobs to include as necessary overtime, extra shifts, and weekend work.
- Ensure that all electrical tools and devices are properly maintained, calibrated, and safe to use.
- Monitor expenses and research approaches for the reduction of operational costs.
- Support the development of electrical standard work instructions, quality checklists, test procedures, electrical installation guides, and all documentation as required for ISO 9001 compliance.
- Ensure that all worked labor time is correct and properly allocated to the right job-units. Resolve labor time issues and provide adjustments and corrections.
- Schedule and facilitate the electrical production meetings. Record and document meeting minutes and assigned actions. Disseminate and communicate meeting notes and minutes.
- Support the review of newly released production drawings from the Electrical Engineering group.
- Support the Job Site Assistance (JSA) group in providing as necessary electrical crews to customer jobsites.
- Lead and assist with continuous improvement initiatives and process improvements.
- Be present and available to the electrical staff. Routine walks and visits to the production departments and the electrical installation team-units to assess completion status.
- Perform other related functions delegated or assigned.
Minimum Requirements / Experience:
- Prior electrical manufacturing experience (5 years)
- Production management experience required (2 years)
- Self-motivated with strong initiative and a results-driven approach
- Solid and proven decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills
- Possess a professional character conducive to building good working relationships.
- Experience making improvements to the manufacturing process.
- Proficient in MS Office: Word / Excel / Outlook
- Experience in the development of high-performance production teams
- Knowledge of performance evaluation and in reporting on key production metrics
- Understanding of key quality control concepts and techniques
- Experience in the enforcement of health and safety rules, policies, and regulations
- Ability to multi-task, set priorities and be effective at time management.
- Ability to read complex electrical blueprints.
- Able to adapt to product design changes, shifting ship schedules, and customer demands quickly and effectively.
- Strong ability to plan and schedule manufacturing jobs to assign people resources and bring job orders to a timely completion.
- Excellent organizational and leaderships skills
- Ability to read/write English, Spanish bilingual a plus.
- Strong accountability with an excuse-less willingness to be responsible for all aspects of the management role.
- Must be able to be available for second shift and weekend work, as necessary.
- Must pass a drug screen and background check for employment.
Required Education:
- Degree in a technical, management, business, engineering, or relevant field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- An Electrical Journeyman’s (Master) License preferred.
Physical Working Conditions:
- Able to work exposure to elements, such as ambient temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and loud noises.
- Able to work in an area without heaters or air conditioning.
