Production Manager:
Works closely with the Executive team to create a cohesive strategy for the yearly productions and the organized timely execution of all its elements. Responsible for overseeing the broad budget and schedule of a theatrical production. This generally includes finding creative ways to keep costs low, hiring and scheduling crew members, and resolving any issues that threaten to slow progress towards opening night. The PM often serves as the “big picture” person, dealing with questions about how decisions will impact the budget and season as a whole.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a partner with full production staff to bring the season to life
- Manages creative elements of production
- Plan, Organize Schedule and run all production meetings
- Production Calendar: Original planning and upkeep throughout the season
- Distributing budget and upkeep of budget throughout the season
- Hiring of all Stage Management Staff
- Hiring of Technical Staff (crew, carpenters, etc.)
- Partnering with heads of company to hire designers and their crews
- Oversight of Design Meetings for all productions
- Maintaining deadlines with designers
- Check in with crews throughout the season
- Maintain Communication with design teams and management teams
- Work to solve larger overarching festival problems (i.e. multiple productions)
- Frequent check ins with TD and SM teams to ensure safety is a priority
- Communicate technical maintenance needed throughout the season
- Serve as point person for scenic, costumes and facility rentals
- Ensure Company Safety
1. Partners with Stage Management to realize individual show needs
2. Partners with Company Management to ensure contracts are created and returned on a timely basis and Company Member’s needs are met
3. Partners with Technical Direction to schedule changeovers, assign crew to shows, and to keep builds on or under budget and on track
4. Serve as a partner with full production staff to complete production
5. Partners with the Artistic Director for season planning and oversight.
Job Need: Year-round due to hiring, budgeting, and design meetings before the season begins. Residency period of 6-12 weeks during the summer (May 1 - Aug 10) and 1-2 weeks twice during the rest of the year (based on production schedule)
Production Responsibilities
- Advertise jobs in the Production department, interview and hire all stage management staff.
- Organize and distribute initial paperwork for production staff.
- Oversee all production staff and manage department meetings preseason and seasonally.
- Coordinate all preseason communication throughout all departments and manage distribution of materials and dropbox accounts for each production.
- Budget responsibility including personnel, supplies, rehearsal space rental, worker’s comp.
