Behavior Intervention Specialist
Reports to: VP, DDABI Services
Location: 1603 Court Street, East Syracuse, NY 13057
Pay Rate: $52,000-$57,000 Annually
Schedule: M-F: 8:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m.

Our focus is supporting individuals by ways of residential housing, mental health and clinical services, and immersing our participants in community engagement. Working closely with the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities and the Office of Mental Health, we support 27 housing locations and 3 administrative buildings.
About the Role:
We are looking for a proactive employee to complete functional behavior assessments and writing behavior intervention plans for adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD) receiving residential services so they can acquire the physical, intellectual, emotional, and social skills needed to live as independently as possible.
Responsibilities:

- Possess a strong understanding of behavioral functions, replacement behaviors. and proactive, person-centered strategies
- Observe behaviors and interactions with participants, get to know their unique capabilities, personality, and potential, and complete Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA)
- Utilize person-centered positive approaches to challenging behaviors and approach all problem solving and plan writing in a person-centered, positive manner
- Develop Behavior Support Plans (BSP), Medication Monitoring Plans (MMP), and/or behavioral interventions which include strategies across a broad range of behaviors and behavioral intensity, based upon the outcome of the FBA, and per regulatory requirements
- Maintain and update plans as needed, on at least an annual basis; including proactive, active, and reactive, strategies
- Observe service provision and provide situational counseling and consultation to support participants, families, and planning teams proactively, and during times of crisis
- Respond to crisis situations by using good judgement through prevention, intervention, resolution, and reporting, to ensure the safety and well-being of participants
- Design and oversee data collection and reporting for BSP's, MMPs, Behavior Protocols, including input of information into electronic databases
- Ensure documentation is in compliance with OPWDD regulations and policy
- Assist the DD/ABI team by writing and implementing department standards while incorporating both current acceptable ideological concepts and OPWDD regulations
- Assist the DD/ABI team with consent assessments and compliance; implement a process to monitor and track each individuals ability to consent, and identify outcomes and/or areas of concern
- Provide person-centered, quality, services
- Follow Agency standards and procedures
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, as well as with company policies
- Perform Other Duties as Assigned
Education/Experience:
Masters degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, mental health counseling, or a related field, required; and at least one year of experience working directly with individuals with developmental disabilities, including the development, implementation, and monitoring of behavior support plans; and/or providing supervision and training to others in the implementation of behavior support plans. NYS Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA), or a NYS Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), preferred; licensure documentation, required.
Conditions of Employment:
Must have a valid NYS Driver License in accordance with the Agency Vehicle and Driving policy and transportation necessary to meet program needs. Responsible for recertifying and maintaining licensure. Must respect confidentiality. Must be able to perform duties with repetitive motion. Must have a moderately flexible schedule. Must be available for occasional early morning, late evening, or weekend, functions; and on-call for bona fide emergencies.
