Job Summary:
This role involves performing essential laboratory tasks while ensuring adherence to quality standards, maintaining accurate records, and guaranteeing the highest level of data integrity and reliability. The ideal candidate will be responsible for specimen accessioning, sample sorting, while also supporting quality assurance efforts to ensure compliance with industry regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Receive, log, and verify specimens, ensuring proper labeling, quantity, condition, and integrity.
- Sort and organize incoming specimens by type, priority, and destination for processing.
- Maintain accurate specimen tracking, labeling, and categorization to ensure an organized storage area.
- Conduct initial quality assessments and ensure specimens are suitable for testing.
- Report any issues with specimens (e.g., damage, improper labeling) to relevant personnel.
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulatory standards for specimen handling, storage, and disposal.
- Prepare laboratory specimens for analysis and testing, ensuring proper handling and labeling.
- Perform quality assurance checks by verifying patient identifiers before samples are processed for further testing, ensuring accurate specimen handling.
- Double-check patient identifiers against corresponding documentation to minimize errors and ensure accurate specimen tracking.
- Accurately identify and label specimens in accordance with lab protocols.
- Ensure proper storage, organization, and tracking of specimens throughout the testing process.
- Meet departmental activity and production goals consistently.
- Collaborate with team members to coordinate tasks and resolve any issues efficiently.
- Communicate with clients regarding specimen status and respond to sample-related inquiries.
- Adhere to safety protocols, including wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and maintaining focus during extended periods of seated work.
- Adapt to changing priorities and workload volumes to maintain operational efficiency.
- Complete additional tasks as assigned by management.
Skills & Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of lab assistance experience, or experience in intake, receiving, or a similar role in a laboratory or healthcare environment, is highly preferred.
- High school diploma required.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and procedures.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and other productivity tools.
- Ability to lift and carry laboratory samples and supplies as needed.
- Comfortable handling blood, urine, and saliva specimens.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and maintain accuracy under pressure.
