Head of Data

Head of Data - Houston, TX or US Remote

A Series B funded startup who are building the infrastructure that powers how residential HVAC systems are monitored, maintained, and serviced are looking for a Head of Data to join their team.

What will I be doing:

• Lead the architecture and execution of a modern data platform to support real-time telemetry, historical analysis, AI training, and operational reporting
• Define the strategy for data transformation, warehousing, governance, and access across the company
• Partner closely with AI/ML teams to ensure high-quality data pipelines for model development and inference (batch and real-time)
• Collaborate with software engineering, product, and operations to embed data visibility and intelligence into user-facing and internal products
• Drive best practices around data quality, lineage, privacy, and access control
• Evaluate and implement tools and technologies that support data scalability, observability, and developer velocity
• Build and lead a growing team of data engineers, data scientists, and analytics professionals
• Promote clear communication, technical rigor, and fast iteration across engineering and cross-functional teams

What are we looking for?

• 8 years of experience working with data systems, with at least 2–3 years leading a team or owning a platform at a high-growth company
• Deep understanding of modern data architecture patterns (e.g., event-driven ingestion, stream/batch processing, lakehouse/hybrid models)
• Hands-on experience with cloud-native data infrastructure (e.g., Redshift, Athena, S3, Airflow, Spark, Kafka/Kinesis, dbt)
• Strong collaboration skills, with experience aligning data architecture to the needs of ML, software, and business stakeholders
• Track record of supporting ML teams with clean, labeled, and well-structured data pipelines
• Excellent communicator with the ability to balance technical depth and business context
• Passionate about enabling a culture of data excellence and working in an environment where data directly impacts the physical world
