As a Senior Accountant at our privately owned transportation company, you will play a critical role in maintaining our financial health and ensuring the accuracy of our reporting. This position goes beyond day-to-day entries; we are looking for a sharp analytical mind to provide deep insights into our profit and loss, handle intercompany complexities, and collaborate across departments to streamline our month-end and year-end processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Month-End Close: Lead the preparation and posting of general entries for monthly closing; ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately and on time.
- Reconciliations: Perform monthly bank reconciliations and manage the analysis/reconciliation of intercompany accounts and specific general ledger accounts (including accrued expenses, prepaid expenses, and accounts receivable).
- Financial Analysis: Prepare internal monthly income statements and provide detailed P&L analysis comparing actuals to budget and prior period performance.
- Reporting: Update account analysis schedules monthly and provide comprehensive, easy-to-understand explanations of financial results to management.
- Audit & Special Projects: Collaborate with the team for interim and year-end audits; prepare specialized financial reports and handle multiple ad-hoc projects as requested.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in general accounting (Senior level experience preferred).
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (v-lookups, pivot tables) and proficiency in Microsoft Word.
- Analytical Power: Strong organizational and analytical skills with a high attention to detail.
- Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to explain complex financial data to non-finance stakeholders.
- Adaptability: Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced transportation environment.
