Job Summary
Student Success at ABAC is comprised of the offices of Academic Support, Accommodation & Disability Services, the Career Center, the Counseling Center, TRIO Student Support Services (SSS), and the Tutoring Center. Academic Support houses the Academic Support Counselors and the Testing Center to provide a wide range of educational and student support services and programs to more than 4,000 undergraduates at ABAC.
Under the direction of the TRIO SSS Project Director, the Academic Support Counselor will assist in the day-to-day operation of TRIO and will provide comprehensive academic support services to TRIO SSS participants from orientation to graduation. In addition to advising, the Academic Support Counselor maintains a caseload of students on academic probation and assists them with an academic success plan. The Academic Support Counselor will assist with contacting and working with TRIO students submitted through the Early Alert System and working with new TRIO SSS students through the First-year Learning Experience (FLEX) program.
This position is funded by a U.S. Department of Education TRIO Student Support Services grant awarded September 2025 and is contingent upon availability of continued annual funding for an estimated five years.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as the Academic Support Counselor for all SSS participants.
- Work with Academic Support in the pre-registration of new TRIO SSS students for orientation.
- Serve as a supplemental advisor for all TRIO SSS students.
- Support retention efforts by acting as an outreach advisor for TRIO students identified as academically at-risk through the Early Alert System
- Manage a caseload of students on academic probation and provide support and academic counseling to help the students return to good academic standing.
- Meet with SSS participants regularly to monitor progress and complete a Student Success Plan for each participant.
- TRIO Planning and Programming
- Collect information/documents and maintain participant records.
- Assist in the coordination of the Peer Tutoring program.
- Develop and deliver SSS workshops.
- Maintain accurate records of all student interactions.
- Other
- Assist in coordinating the process of recruiting and selecting SSS participants.
- Available to work a flexible schedule with some travel, evenings, and weekends.
- Participate in state, regional, and national TRIO conferences.
- Other duties as assigned by the TRIO SSS Project Director.
- Bachelors Degree in a related field
- Experience in higher education student support services (preferred)
- Strong interpersonal skills and student service commitment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience working with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
- Must be self-motivated and possess organizational skills for independent work.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including presentation skills for small and large groups.
- Professionalism, confidentiality, and the ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to balance tasks, work with regular interruption, and prioritize in response to changing demands.
- Experience with spreadsheets, word processing, databases, and presentation software
- Demonstrated ability to work with electronic student records, such as Banner (preferred)
