- Assist Lead Teacher in planning and implementing age-appropriate activities.
- Support classroom management and maintain a positive learning environment.
- Ensure daily practices comply with OCFS licensing standards.
- Supervise children during play, meals, rest, and transitions.
- Help maintain accurate attendance and incident records.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians under guidance of Lead Teacher.
- Conduct daily health and safety checks in accordance with OCFS guidelines.
- Support classroom management by encouraging positive behavior and helping maintain a structured, safe environment for children
- Engage children in age-appropriate activities that promote cognitive, emotional, and physical growth, including Montessori and preschool curricula
- Help with classroom organization, including preparing materials for lessons and maintaining cleanliness and safety standards
- Provide attentive care to toddlers and children with special needs or disabilities, ensuring their individual needs are met with compassion and patience
- Foster effective communication with children to support language development and literacy education
- Collaborate with team members to develop tailored curriculum activities that cater to diverse learning styles and developmental stages
- Participate in professional development and required OCFS trainings
Qualifications (per OCFS requirements)
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Coursework in Early Childhood Education preferred.
- Experience:
- At least 6 months of experience working with children in a group setting preferred.
- Certifications:
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Mandated Reporter training (per OCFS).
- Must meet OCFS staff qualification standards for Assistant Teacher roles.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff.
- Strong understanding of childhood development principles and early childhood education strategies
- Experience working with children in daycare, preschool, or private school settings
- Knowledge of special education techniques, including working with children with autism or disabilities
- Proficiency in lesson planning, curriculum development, and behavior management techniques
- Familiarity with Montessori methods and preschool educational practices
- Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with children, parents, and team members
- Ability to manage classroom dynamics confidently while maintaining a nurturing environment
- Experience caring for toddlers and providing age-specific activities that promote growth in literacy, math, and social skills
