Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care including assistance with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility support using proper manual handling techniques.
- Monitor vital signs and observe patient conditions, reporting any changes promptly to nursing staff.
- Assist with medical procedures such as catheter care, medication administration under supervision, and basic life support when needed.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation within electronic health record (EHR) systems while ensuring patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Support patients with specialized needs including dementia care, Alzheimer's care, memory care, and those requiring hospice or palliative support.
- Use patient transfer methods safely utilizing equipment like Hoyer lifts and other assistive devices to prevent injury.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient service across medical-surgical units, long-term care facilities, or outpatient clinics.
Experience
Candidates should possess prior experience working as a CNA or in similar caregiving roles within hospital medicine, long-term care facilities, assisted living communities, or home & community care environments. Experience working with diverse patient populations—including geriatric patients, individuals with disabilities, or those requiring specialized care such as ICU or trauma center experience—is highly valued. Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or eClinicalWorks is preferred. Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology, aseptic techniques, infection control practices—including infectious disease care—and safe lifting practices. Certification in CPR and basic life support is required. Prior exposure to pediatric or neonatal (PICU) settings and experience in emergency medicine or urgent care environments will be considered advantageous.
