Duties
- Assist in preparing and serving nutritious meals tailored to residents’ dietary needs, including special diets and restrictions
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and dining areas in accordance with food safety regulations and JCAHO standards
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently during meal preparation and food handling activities
- Support food production processes, including portioning, plating, bussing, and cleaning dishes and utensils
- Adhere strictly to safe lifting practices when handling heavy items or moving supplies to prevent workplace injuries
- Follow proper manual handling procedures while assisting with meal delivery or setting up dining areas
- Ensure compliance with all workplace safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and sanitation procedures
Requirements
- Previous experience working in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, or the food industry is highly preferred
- Knowledge of food production, preparation, serving, and sanitation standards required for healthcare settings
- Familiarity with operating kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
- Strong time management skills to handle multiple tasks during busy meal times
- Ability to work effectively with geriatric patients, respecting their dietary preferences and restrictions
- Basic math skills for portioning and inventory management
- Excellent customer service skills to create a positive dining experience for residents
- Certification in CPR is preferred; willingness to obtain certification upon hire is required
- Commitment to workplace safety practices including proper manual handling techniques and PPE use
- Ability to lift heavy loads safely and perform physical tasks involved in food service operations
