Hospital-employed, full-time opportunity in Rutland, Vermont combining clinical practice and departmental leadership. The Medical Director will oversee and grow ophthalmology services within a regional healthcare system while maintaining an active surgical and clinic practice.
Key responsibilities
- Provide clinical care across outpatient clinic and surgical settings
- Lead clinical program development, quality improvement, and service expansion
- Mentor and collaborate with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and clinical staff
- Manage credentialing, staffing coordination, and operational workflows for the ophthalmology service
- Participate in hospital leadership meetings and strategic planning
Practice environment
- Established, high-volume referral base in the region
- Collaborative multidisciplinary team (ophthalmologists, optometrists, Certified Ophthalmic Assistants)
- Dedicated operating room block time in a state-of-the-art procedure center
- Modern surgical and diagnostic equipment
- Call schedule: 1:4
Minimum qualifications
- MD or DO from an accredited medical school
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Ophthalmology
- Completion of an accredited ophthalmology residency
- Fellowship training welcome but not required
- Eligible for Vermont medical license and hospital privileges
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
