Schedule
- 4–12 shifts per month
- Shift length: 8 hours
- Available shifts:
- 6:30 AM–2:30 PM
- 1:30 PM–10:30 PM
- 9:30 PM–6:30 AM
Clinical Setting
- Busy emergency department
- Annual ED volume: ~22,000 patients
- EMR: Epic; dictation: Dragon
- No scribes
- Locums physicians: limited trauma responsibilities
Patient Mix & Disposition
- Discharge: ~77%
- Admission: ~14%
- Left before treatment complete: ~4%
- Observation: ~2.8%
- Transfer: ~2.5%
Responsibilities
- Provide emergency care across a range of acuity
- Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and disposition patients
- Respond to codes and emergent situations
- Perform appropriate ED procedures and interventions
- Collaborate with nursing, consultants, and other care team members
- Complete accurate, timely documentation in Epic using Dragon
Requirements
- Active Iowa medical license
- Active DEA registration
- Current ACLS, BLS, PALS, ATLS certifications
- Emergency Medicine experience required
