Join a busy, well-supported trauma and acute care surgery team in Amarillo, Texas. This Level II Trauma Center provides a high-volume, collaborative environment ideal for a locum physician who enjoys a diverse caseload and working closely with multidisciplinary colleagues.
What you’ll be stepping into
- A 495-bed acute care hospital and designated Level II Trauma Center with an established trauma program.
- Ongoing locum opportunity with shift-based coverage in a team-oriented practice.
- A robust case mix: roughly 1,618 trauma activations, more than 1,000 trauma admissions, and nearly 500 acute care surgery operative cases each year.
Typical coverage and expectations
- In-house trauma coverage and Acute Care Surgery (ACS) responsibilities.
- Scheduled backup call coverage and 24-hour shifts that include call duties.
- 30-minute callback response time when on backup.
- Close collaboration with emergency medicine, critical care, hospitalists, and surgical staff to coordinate patient care.
Core responsibilities
- Evaluate and manage trauma and emergency general surgery patients in both operative and non-operative settings.
- Provide consultations and perform urgent procedures for acute care surgery patients.
- Participate actively in trauma activations and multidisciplinary case management.
- Maintain accurate documentation in the facility’s electronic medical record.
Who we’re looking for
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery.
- Fellowship training in Trauma Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, or Acute Care Surgery preferred.
- Active Texas medical license or ability to obtain one.
- Current ATLS certification.
- Proven trauma and acute care surgery experience, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting.
