Position Summary
The Commercial Property Management Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate accounting records, preparing financial reports, and completing month‑end and year‑end close processes. This role is ideal for an accountant with a solid foundation in accounting who is interested in applying their skills in commercial real estate. Prior commercial property or real estate accounting experience is preferred, but we will consider candidates without this background who are motivated and eager to learn.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain general ledger accounting for commercial properties and related entities
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements
- Reconcile operating accounts, reserve accounts, and bank statements
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations related to property operations
- Track rental income, operating expenses, and property‑level budgets
- Assist with CAM, tax, and insurance reconciliations for commercial tenants
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for commercial assets
- Collaborate with property managers, asset managers, and leadership teams
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company policies
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- Preferred: Experience in commercial property or real estate accounting
- Familiarity with commercial leases, CAM charges, and tenant billing is a plus
- Experience with property management or accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, or similar) preferred
- Strong Excel skills and high attention to detail
- Excellent organizational, time‑management, and communication skills
