Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Modeler with deep experience in Teradata and Erwin Data Modeler / Erwin Model Mart to support enterprise data warehouse initiatives. This role is responsible for designing, optimizing, and maintaining logical and physical data models that support analytic, operational, and reporting needs across the organization.
The ideal candidate brings strong data modeling expertise, a solid understanding of normalized/dimensional modeling, and hands-on experience building and maintaining complex Teradata environments. This role requires close collaboration with data architects, ETL developers, database administrators, and business stakeholders to ensure scalable, high-quality data solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Data Modeling & Architecture
- Design, develop, and maintain logical and physical data models within a Teradata-based enterprise data warehouse and dependent data marts.
- Use Erwin Data Modeler / Erwin Model Mart to create, version, and maintain data models, subject areas, metadata structures, and data dictionaries.
- Define and enforce data modeling standards, naming conventions, and best practices.
Analysis & Design
- Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into scalable and efficient database designs.
- Conduct data profiling, impact analysis, and gap analysis to validate source-to-target mapping and ensure data quality.
- Collaborate with data architects to ensure alignment between enterprise architecture and model designs.
Integration & ETL Collaboration
- Partner with ETL developers to ensure data models are properly implemented and optimized for performance.
- Validate ETL designs against data models and support updates, enhancements, and troubleshooting when necessary.
- Support metadata management and data governance processes.
Performance Optimization
- Optimize Teradata data structures for performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Perform SQL and database performance tuning, index optimization, and structure refinement.
- Troubleshoot model-related issues across production and development environments.
Documentation & Governance
- Maintain comprehensive model documentation, business definitions, lineage, and mapping specifications.
- Participate in design reviews, data quality assessments, and model validation.
- Support audit, compliance, and data governance initiatives through documentation and data standards enforcement.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelorβs degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
- 5 years of data modeling experience supporting large-scale, enterprise data warehouse environments.
- Expertise with Teradata databases and architecture.
- Advanced proficiency with Erwin Data Modeler and Erwin Model Mart.
- Strong knowledge of normalized, denormalized, and dimensional modeling techniques (3NF, star schema, snowflake).
- Solid understanding of ETL concepts and supporting large-scale data integration solutions.
- Strong SQL skills and experience with database optimization/performance tuning.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills with the ability to work across teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cloud data platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Familiarity with BI/reporting tools such as Tableau, Power BI, SAP BusinessObjects, or similar.
- Exposure to Agile/Scrum or DevOps-oriented development environments.
- Experience working within regulated, government, or large enterprise environments.
