We are seeking a Kids Director to lead and inspire the A Jesus Kids ministry at A Jesus Church. We believe kids are a vital part of the church family and deserve a well-organized, spiritually formative, deeply welcoming, and genuinely fun environment to encounter Jesus. This role plays a central part in shaping that environment by equipping leaders, cultivating healthy teams, and ensuring every child—from infancy to 5th grade—has the opportunity to grow in a safe, engaging, and Christ-centered space. As a strategic and pastoral leader, the Kids Director will oversee the coordination, planning, and execution of all children’s programming in alignment with AJC’s mission and values.

Full-Time (Non-Exempt) | 40hrs


The Kids Director brings leadership to the A Jesus Kids (“AJK” and “the ministry”) team at A Jesus Church (“AJC”), fostering a healthy culture in AJK and its team through coordination, collaboration, and helping to clarify vision and plans as part of AJC’s larger vision. They guide the team to ensure that all kids, volunteers, and parents can assimilate and grow within A Jesus Church. They are a primary point of contact for the AJK volunteer team and for parents, helping people integrate into church life, and offering pastoral support alongside direction for participation in the ministry. This role has a firm grasp on the purpose, values, and strategy of AJC while leading A Jesus Kids, conveying the church’s values and carrying out its vision.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Lead vision, strategy, and execution of planning within the Kids Team, aligning all ministry efforts with AJC’s overall mission and values.

  • Collaborate with the Executive Pastor of Ministry and the Kids Team to dream, create, and build the next iteration of A Jesus Kids, shaping long-term ministry direction and initiatives.

  • Provide direct oversight, coaching, and problem-solving support to Kids Team members responsible for specific age groups and ministry environments.

  • Provide pastoral support and discipleship, serving as a primary contact for parents and volunteers with support from pastoral superiors.

  • Manage the AJK team, overseeing the health, effectiveness, and development of ministry activities and team members.

  • Recruit, onboard, train, schedule, and develop staff and volunteers, including overseeing hours, time-off management, deacon meetings, and curriculum/teaching support for both Pre-K and K–5th ministries.

  • Plan and conduct team meetings, deacon meetings, and other gatherings to ensure alignment, clarity, and strong communication.

  • Ensure all Sunday kids ministry environments are consistently safe, spiritually enriching, age-appropriate, and fully prepared, including room setup, teardown, cleanliness, organization, and supply management.

  • Coordinate with operations staff to maintain classrooms, shared spaces, and facilities that support excellent teaching and care.

  • Ensure curriculum for all age groups is prepared, distributed, and resourced each week, and support the team in implementing biblically faithful and engaging lessons.

  • Maintain organization and upkeep of storage areas, resource rooms, and supply inventories.

  • Work collaboratively with other AJC ministries to ensure unity and alignment across churchwide initiatives.

  • Participate in AJC’s leadership development program for directors to grow the character and competencies needed for director-level leadership.

  • Meet with leadership coaches and executive leaders as part of ongoing development, in addition to regular team and supervisory meetings.

  • Perform other ministry duties as needed to support Kids Ministry operations and the overall mission of AJC.


Qualifications & Attributes:

General
  • Philosophically and theologically aligned with AJC’s DNA and values.
  • Living within the character qualifications of 1 Timothy 3v1–13.
  • High relational intelligence with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong written communication and organizational skills.
  • Able to translate broad direction into structured plans.
  • Comfortable multitasking across multiple projects and timelines.
  • Responsible, detail-oriented, and dependable.
  • Familiarity with Apple OS, Google Workspace, and standard administrative tools.

Kids
  • Passion to reach kids for Jesus and support families in discipleship.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to build, develop, and motivate volunteer teams.
  • Experience working with children and coordinating children’s programming (required).
  • Knowledge of child development or educational best practices (preferred).
  • Ability to cultivate a spiritually enriching and safe ministry environment for infants through 5th grade.
  • Strong administrative skills for managing curriculum preparation, supply needs, volunteer schedules, and Sunday operations.
  • Skilled in planning and executing kids and family events, programs, and ministry initiatives.
  • Capacity to foster a culture of excellence, joy, and spiritual growth among volunteers.


Minimum Job Requirements & Expectations:

  • Expected to actively attend AJC and read and are in alignment with the core beliefs of AJC.
  • Ability to be a good teammate who partners in problem-solving, thrives in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment, and manages multiple priorities effectively.
  • Organized, responsible, action-oriented, and detail-oriented.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Self-starter with an inherent desire to achieve exceptional results.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changes and last-minute needs.
  • Good understanding of the English language, especially in written form.
  • Familiarity with Apple operating systems and word-processing applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Pages, Google Docs, etc.) and Google G-Suite applications (e.g., Docs, Sheets, Mail, etc.).
  • Responds to all staff/volunteer correspondence in a timely manner.
  • Attend all required gatherings, staff meetings, various all-staff events, staff retreats, and other meetings as needed.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
