Responsibilities

• Review and process medical claims using appropriate coding systems such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications to ensure precise billing.
• Enter and verify patient information within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, maintaining accuracy across all medical records.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and ensure proper coding for procedures, diagnoses, and hospital stays.
• Submit claims electronically to insurance payers, monitor claim status, and follow up on unpaid or denied claims to facilitate prompt reimbursement.
• Conduct medical collections by communicating effectively with insurance companies, patients, and other stakeholders to resolve billing discrepancies.
• Maintain comprehensive records of billing activities, insurance correspondence, and payment histories for audit readiness.
• Stay current with updates in medical coding standards, insurance policies, and healthcare regulations affecting rural health clinics.

Requirements

• Proven experience in medical billing within a healthcare setting, preferably in a rural health clinic environment.
• Strong knowledge of medical coding including CPT coding, ICD-9/10 coding systems, DRG classifications, and ICD coding guidelines.
• Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems used for documenting patient encounters and billing processes.
• Excellent understanding of medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare documentation standards.
• Ability to interpret complex insurance policies and perform effective follow-up on unpaid claims or denials.
• Experience with medical collections processes and resolving billing discrepancies efficiently.
