- Enter and verify patient information within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, maintaining accuracy across all medical records.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and ensure proper coding for procedures, diagnoses, and hospital stays.
- Submit claims electronically to insurance payers, monitor claim status, and follow up on unpaid or denied claims to facilitate prompt reimbursement.
- Conduct medical collections by communicating effectively with insurance companies, patients, and other stakeholders to resolve billing discrepancies.
- Maintain comprehensive records of billing activities, insurance correspondence, and payment histories for audit readiness.
- Stay current with updates in medical coding standards, insurance policies, and healthcare regulations affecting rural health clinics.
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical billing within a healthcare setting, preferably in a rural health clinic environment.
- Strong knowledge of medical coding including CPT coding, ICD-9/10 coding systems, DRG classifications, and ICD coding guidelines.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems used for documenting patient encounters and billing processes.
