We are looking for a motivated Sales Estimator to help grow our business while delivering accurate, competitive proposals to our customers.
Position Summary
A&E Machine Shop is seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented Sales Estimator to join our team. This position combines technical estimating with customer relationship management and business development. The ideal candidate has experience estimating welding, fabrication, machining, and industrial construction projects and possesses a strong understanding of pressure vessels, ASME fabrication standards, and industrial manufacturing processes.
The Sales Estimator plays a critical role in ensuring projects are accurately priced, profitable, and aligned with customer expectations while helping develop new business opportunities and maintaining long-term client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for:
- Welding and fabrication projects
- CNC and manual machining work
- Pressure vessel fabrication, repair, and alterations
- Equipment repair, rebuilding, and custom manufacturing
- Review RFQs, blueprints, specifications, drawings, and customer requirements.
- Interpret engineering drawings and determine labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Prepare detailed quotations and proposals using estimating software and spreadsheets.
- Follow up on submitted bids and maintain communication throughout the sales process.
- Develop new customer relationships while maintaining and expanding existing accounts.
- Visit customer facilities and job sites to evaluate project scope when necessary.
- Negotiate pricing with vendors and subcontractors to secure competitive costs.
- Collaborate with project managers, shop supervisors, engineers, and production personnel to ensure accurate estimating.
- Analyze completed projects to improve estimating accuracy and profitability.
- Support contract reviews by verifying project scope and identifying potential risks.
- Assist in developing competitive bid strategies that align with company goals and market conditions.
- Track estimating metrics, bid success rates, and project performance.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of estimating experience in welding, fabrication, machining, industrial manufacturing, or construction.
- Strong knowledge of welding and metal fabrication processes.
- Working knowledge of pressure vessels and ASME Code requirements is required.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple bids while meeting deadlines.
- Self-motivated with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ASME Section VIII pressure vessels.
- Familiarity with ASME U Stamp and National Board R Stamp requirements.
- Experience with ERP systems, job costing, or construction estimating software.
- Industrial sales or field experience.
- Knowledge of construction site operations and industrial safety standards.
- Experience estimating heavy industrial, mining, manufacturing, or energy-related projects.
