We are seeking a highly organized, energetic, and people-focused Human Resources Generalist to lead our recruiting and onboarding efforts in a fast-paced construction environment. This is a high-volume role responsible for recruiting, hiring, and onboarding both local and travel-based employees across our Electrical, HVAC, and Refrigeration divisions.
The Human Resources Generalist serves as the primary point of contact for candidates and new hires, ensuring an exceptional hiring and onboarding experience from initial application through orientation. This position is responsible for managing full-cycle recruiting, coordinating onboarding, verifying employment eligibility and trade certifications, maintaining compliance documentation, and ensuring employees are fully prepared for deployment to project sites.
Success in this role requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet aggressive hiring deadlines, and communicate effectively with candidates, field leadership, and project managers. Key Areas of Responsibility
- High-volume recruiting for Electrical, HVAC, and Refrigeration field positions
- Recruiting for both local and travel-based construction projects
- Full-cycle recruiting, interviewing, and candidate management
- New hire onboarding and orientation coordination
- I-9, E-Verify, background screening, and employment documentation
- OSHA, trade license, certification, and training verification
- Employee engagement and new hire support
- HRIS administration (Gusto) and employee records management
- Coordination of employee accounts and onboarding systems (Google Workspace, Procore, Housecall Pro, etc.)
- Partnering with Operations and Project Managers to meet staffing deadlines and project manpower requirements
- Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and company employment policies
Pay: $40,000 - $65,000 per year
Duties
- Oversee employee orientation programs to ensure new hires are effectively integrated into the company culture and understand organizational policies.
- Facilitate employee evaluation and performance management processes by supporting managers with performance reviews, goal setting, and development plans.
- Maintain compliance with employment & labor law regulations such as OSHA and FMLA by implementing policies, conducting audits, and providing training on legal requirements.
- Handle employee relations issues with professionalism and tact, employing conflict management skills to resolve disputes amicably while fostering a positive work environment.
- Assist in organizational design, change management projects, succession planning, and affirmative action planning to align workforce strategies with business goals.
- Facilitate all employee exit interviews and evaluations
Skills
- Strong knowledge of HR principles, employment law, and human resources best practices, including federal and state employment regulations.
- May require evening and weekend on call work to manage employee engagement
- Proven experience managing high-volume recruiting and full-cycle hiring in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and tight hiring deadlines.
- Experience recruiting for skilled trades such as Electrical, HVAC, Refrigeration, Construction, or Industrial positions is strongly preferred.
- Proficient with HRIS, payroll, and applicant tracking systems (ATS), including experience with platforms such as Gusto or similar systems.
- Experience coordinating onboarding, I-9 and E-Verify compliance, background screenings, drug testing, MVR reviews, and new hire orientation.
- Knowledge of OSHA requirements, safety certifications, trade license verification, and maintaining employee compliance records.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple openings, onboarding tasks, and employee requests simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to build relationships with candidates, employees, and leadership.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Project Managers, Operations, and field leadership to meet staffing demands for both local and travel-based projects.
- Strong problem-solving and time management skills with the ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Experience supporting employee engagement, employee relations, performance management, and day-to-day HR operations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace, with the ability to learn and manage multiple business software platforms, including Procore and Housecall Pro.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
- 5 years of High Volume recruiting and HR experience
- Must be willing to be on call over the weekends to answer questions and respond back to team questions promptly
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organization and attention to detail
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
- Experience with Google Workspace and HR systems preferred
- Construction, HVAC, trades, or service industry experience is a plus
