OVERVIEW:

Manages the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department by planning, organizing, and directing staff, to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and continuity of financial data and reporting. Provides timely, reliable accounting information that supports management decision-making and the organization’s overall financial stewardship.

Functional/Operational

  • Communicates effectively with outside vendors on behalf of the Accounting Department and the organization.
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close process.
  • Review of financial statements and management reports.
  • Ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
  • Establish and maintain effective accounting procedures and internal controls.  Identify opportunities to improve.
  • Support system enhancements and implementations.
  • Directs capital credit allocations and retirements.
  • Monitors, reviews, and participates in annual external audits.
  • Performs financial analyses and prepares custom reports to address management inquiries and financial information needs.
  • Pursues ongoing professional development to remain current on accounting and tax procedures and practices.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to support effective department operations.
  • Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of highly sensitive human resources and management records.

 

Strategic/Supervisory

  • Overseas and directs department activities to ensure the accurate and timely preparation of financial management reports, including internal and external monthly financial statements, and annual audits.
  • Establishes, administers, and continuously improves accounting procedures and internal controls to ensure accurate transaction processing, financial reporting, and compliance.
  • Provides departmental leadership to support staffing, training, coaching, development, work assignments, performance management, goal setting, and compliance with company policies and procedures.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensure is preferred.
  • Requires 7-10 years of experience, including leadership of programs and staff, in in GAAP and financial reporting operations, with demonstrated expertise in financial statement preparation, journal entries, payroll, accounts payable, billing, account analysis, business operations analysis, cash flow management, multi-level financial reporting, asset accounting, and business tax matters.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: 

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-task environment and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of company policies and procedures and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and strong mathematical skills.
  • Demonstrated accounting expertise to develop and enforce internal controls and procedures that ensure accurate, reliable accounting system operations, transaction processing, and reporting.
  • Proficiency in general computer operations, Microsoft Office applications, and accounting systems.
  • Ability to anticipate and respond to changing customer and business needs by quickly realigning strategic and operational priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, achieve results through others, develop and motivate staff, and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Ability to think ahead and plan with both short-term and long-term focus.
  • Knowledge of human resources administration to manage employee work, conduct performance reviews, develop goals and objectives, and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated organizational, detail-oriented, and analytical problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply theoretical and technical concepts in practical decision-making.

The anticipated starting salary within the posted salary range will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's education, relevant experience, skills, qualifications, certifications, internal equity, and market considerations.
