7th Level Technologies is seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to support the automation side of our business. This role is responsible for programming, maintaining, and troubleshooting automated control systems to minimize downtime and ensure reliable operations.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong PLC programming experience who is eager to take ownership of automated control systems and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Programming & Scripting
- Develop, maintain, and modify control programs and scripts for automated systems (PLC platforms such as Siemens and Allen-Bradley).
- Troubleshooting & Support
- Diagnose and resolve automation and control system issues quickly to minimize process downtime.
- Testing & Calibration
- Test automation systems, calibrate equipment, and conduct performance and validation checks.
- Documentation
- Create and maintain clear technical documentation, including system designs, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Safety & Compliance
- Ensure automation systems comply with safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
- Continuous Improvement
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve automation systems, processes, and tools to enhance efficiency and reliability.
- System Optimization
- As familiarity with our various customers' automated systems increases, assume greater responsibility for optimizing system performance, reducing downtime, and improving product quality.
- Electrial Engineering Technology degree — or equivalent hands-on experience.
- 1–3 years of professional experience programming PLCs and supporting automated control and HMI systems.
- Experience in chemical, food, or materials manufacturing environments.
- Experience with valve controls and utility control systems.
- Proficiency with PLC platforms (Siemens, Allen-Bradley).
- Working knowledge of C-more and Do-more HMI software.
- Familiarity with sensors, actuators, and industrial automation hardware.
- Understanding of networking, data communication, and industrial protocols.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical, critical thinking, and troubleshooting abilities.
- Training & Development: Comfortable training and mentoring others.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
