Capital Women's Care is a 150 group of OB/GYNs located throughout Greater Washington, DC, Northern Virginia and Maryland. The Women's Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) is responsible for providing comprehensive OB/GYN care to patients including, routine gynecological care, prenatal and postnatal care and treatment of OB/GYN related conditions. This position works closely with other providers while independently evaluating and managing patient care.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for patient care management — Preventative Care, Routine Care, Diagnosis and Treatment, Patient Education.
- Responsible record management by accurately documenting all patient interactions.
- Participate and collaborate with staff to provide continuous quality improvements.
Primary Duties
- Assess patient status by obtaining health history through patient and family interviews, chart reviews, and evaluation of presenting illness, risk factors, family history, psychosocial context, and cultural considerations; perform appropriate physical examinations.
- Order and/or perform laboratory, diagnostic, and screening tests; seek additional information as needed, including consultations with physicians and other clinicians, to evaluate illness. Integrate findings to establish diagnoses, develop therapeutic plans, and identify potential health risks.
- Conduct well-woman exams, including routine screenings, Pap smears, contraceptive counseling, and preventive care.
- Respond promptly to urgent patient care needs, providing stabilizing treatment and guidance.
- Educate patients on lifestyle, nutrition, contraception, pregnancy, and preventive health measures.
- Accurately document all patient interactions, diagnoses, treatments, and follow-up plans in compliance with HIPAA and company policies.
Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
- Minimum 2 years’ clinical experience, preferably in OB/GYN
Skills & Knowledge:
- Knowledge of advanced nursing practice, including anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology and therapeutics, nutrition, behavioral health, psychosocial/family systems, diagnostic testing, result interpretation, clinical decision-making, and alternative treatment modalities.
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory, standards, regulations, and ethics related to patient evaluation, care delivery, and professional conduct.
- Proficient in the use of medical equipment and instruments for patient care, with knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe environment.
- Knowledge of health promotion, risk identification, patient education principles, and available community, professional, and educational resources.
- Skilled in oral and written communication, including patient interviews, presentations, consultations, facilitation, and documentation (e.g., medical orders, patient education materials, medical record updates). Proficient in electronic health record and health information systems.
- Skilled in case management, time management, multitasking, problem-solving, crisis intervention, and other organizational functions.
- Ability to adapt nursing methods to meet patient needs, initiate emergency responses and investigations, work independently, make sound clinical decisions, and analyze complex data to manage patient care in a fast-paced environment.
Work Schedule
- Office: Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Hospital: One weekend (Saturday/Sunday) of postpartum rounding as needed, serving as backup to the hospitalist team approximately every 6–8 weeks.
