PURPOSE OF JOB:  Provide leadership for the school’s entire athletic program through the ongoing development, implementation and improvement of the specific sport coached.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Establish a program that ensures a cooperative, supportive, and participative environment for all students, coaches, faculty and the community based on KCMSD Athletic Department guidelines;
2. Provide leadership that is proactive and positive that will emphasize the physical, psychological and social benefits of interscholastic athletics;
3. Create short and long range goals for the school’s athletic program that fits with the school’s academic program, culture, and KCMSD goals;
4. Ensure compliance of the program with MSHSAA standards;
5. Check & ensure student-athlete meets MSHSAA eligibility standards on a weekly basis
   1. Update MSHSAA website for student-athlete eligibility
   2. Answer “Transfer Requests” from MSHSAA for student-athletes that have transferred to/from other institutions;
   3. Responsible for the supervision & evaluation of all athletic coaches in the building;
   4. Responsible for participating in the interviewing process for coaches;
   5. Communicate with District Athletic Department re: on-site issues/successes;
   6. Participate in monthly District Athletic Department meetings concerning League business and extended scheduling;
   7. Attend all home athletic contests and/or appoint administrative personnel  to attend and supervise home athletic contests;
   8. Responsible for obtaining the advertising, information, printing and selling of programs  or varsity contests (may assign a designee to do this);
   9. Ensure facilities are game-day ready;

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  Head Coach(es) and Student-Athletes

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be employed as a teacher or administrator in the school in which the candidate applies;
2. Must hold a valid teacher’s certificate and be contracted by the KCMSD BOE for the school year as a full or part-time teacher;
3. Must have at least 3 years of athletic administrative experience;
4. Must fulfill 8 contact hours of professional development;
   1. District Level Meetings—4 hours
   2. School Level Meetings—3 hours
   3. Outside Meetings—1 hour
   4. Knowledge of the overall operation of athletic program
   5. First Aid/CPR certification

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Have, or in progress for a graduate degree with emphasis in Sports Administration, Public Administration or similar degree plans.
