About the role Rio Tinto is seeking an experienced Overseer to lead the day-to-day management of Hamersley Station, located near Tom Price in the heart of Western Australia's Pilbara. Hamersley Station spans approximately 266,000 hectares and forms part of Rio Tinto's broader pastoral portfolio, alongside Rocklea Station and Juna Downs Station. Together, these stations cover approximately 770,000 hectares of Pilbara country surrounding Karijini National Park and the communities of Tom Price, Paraburdoo and Newman. While the stations are managed as an integrated pastoral portfolio, this role is based at Hamersley Station and is focused on leading its day-to-day operations. This is a broad operational leadership role, balancing livestock production with the safety and development of our people, animal welfare, land stewardship, cultural heritage and the long-term management of station assets. The Overseer has responsibility for operational planning, safety performance, team leadership, livestock and grazing management, infrastructure, contractors and financial performance. You will have the autonomy to lead the day-to-day operation while being supported by the broader Pastoral Stations team and specialist capability from across Rio Tinto. What you’ll be doing Lead, plan and coordinate the day-to-day operations of Hamersley Station, including the supervision and development of station employees. Plan and execute mustering, processing, livestock movements and sales, while overseeing herd health, animal welfare and livestock performance. Manage grazing and stocking decisions based on seasonal conditions, available feed, water, land condition and the capability of the country. Lead a strong safety culture, ensuring risks are understood, effectively managed and people are encouraged to speak up. Plan and prioritise work across the station, balancing immediate operational requirements with longer-term priorities. Coordinate contractors and specialist services, including helicopter operations, livestock transport and infrastructure works. Manage station budgets, expenditure and resources, identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency. Plan and oversee maintenance, capital works and improvements across water infrastructure, fencing, yards, plant, vehicles and equipment. Build and maintain respectful relationships with Traditional Owners and work collaboratively with internal teams and pastoral industry bodies, while supporting the protection of cultural heritage and connection to Country. About you We are looking for a practical, accountable and capable station leader who is comfortable taking responsibility for a large and diverse pastoral operation. Required for Success Has demonstrated experience leading pastoral, rural, livestock or comparable land-based operations. Sets high standards for safety, animal welfare and land stewardship, with a sound understanding of grazing management and seasonal stocking decisions. Is a mature and capable leader who sets high standards, remains composed under pressure and builds a respectful, accountable and high-performing team. Has sound judgement and can effectively plan, prioritise and make practical decisions in a remote operating environment. Holds or can obtain HR or MC license and WA firearms license. Understands station economics, budgeting and contractor management, with strong practical knowledge of water systems, fencing, yards, plant and equipment. Communicates clearly and professionally and can build effective relationships with Traditional Owners, neighboring pastoralists, industry bodies, regulators and people across all levels of the business.
