About the role We are looking for an Advisor Occupational Hygiene to provide professional health and safety support to leaders, employees and contractors across Rio Tinto Iron Ore. In this role, you will collaborate with stakeholders to support a safe working environment and help implement occupational health and safety programmes that meet regulatory and Rio Tinto requirements. Reporting to the Principal Hygiene, you will provide site-based occupational hygiene advice, evaluate monitoring results, support health surveillance and help improve the systems and processes that manage occupational exposure risk. This is an opportunity to combine technical expertise with practical influence across operational teams. What you’ll be doing Reporting to the Principal Hygiene and working with operational leaders, occupational hygiene specialists and health, safety and environment teams, you will be: • Provide occupational hygiene advice and guidance to site-based teams, leaders and contractors. • Plan and review risk-based exposure monitoring programmes, including personal exposure, water, health and environmental monitoring where required. • Evaluate monitoring results and reports, identify potential over-exposure or adverse health effects, and recommend appropriate controls. • Coordinate medical review and follow-up after health surveillance in partnership with relevant health professionals. • Advise on legislative, regulatory and industry requirements relating to occupational hygiene. • Complete assurance activities against Rio Tinto health standards and support effective corrective actions. • Identify opportunities to standardise and simplify occupational hygiene processes and improve control effectiveness. • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including laboratories, regulators, service providers and professional bodies. Required for Success • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team. • A tertiary qualification in occupational hygiene, allied health or a related discipline. • Membership of, or eligibility for membership with, the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists. • Demonstrated experience delivering occupational hygiene support in a mining, resources or similarly complex industrial environment. • Practical capability in exposure monitoring, data interpretation, health surveillance and occupational hygiene risk controls. • Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulatory requirements, Rio Tinto health and safety systems, standards and assurance processes. Helpful for Success • Surface ventilation officer, noise officer or audiometric officer qualifications. • Experience facilitating assurance activities and influencing operational stakeholders. • Well-developed analytical, technical and written communication capability.
