We are seeking a Property Accountant to support the accounting and financial reporting functions for a portfolio of commercial and/or residential real estate assets. This role will be responsible for the monthly close process, financial statement preparation, account reconciliations, and partnering with property management teams to ensure accurate property-level financial reporting.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and complete monthly property accounting close processes for an assigned portfolio
- Prepare property-level financial statements, variance analyses, and supporting schedules
- Record and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and cash account analysis
- Assist with tenant billings, CAM reconciliations, and operating expense recoveries
- Review lease information and ensure accurate rent schedules and revenue recognition
- Work closely with property managers to address accounting issues and explain financial results
- Assist with annual budgets, forecasts, and reforecast processes
- Monitor property cash activity and support cash management functions
- Support year-end audits and tax preparation by providing requested schedules and documentation
- Maintain compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Assist with special projects and ad hoc financial analyses as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2–5 years of property accounting, real estate accounting, or general accounting experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP and property accounting principles
- Experience preparing financial statements and account reconciliations
- Experience with real estate accounting software such as Yardi, MRI, AppFolio, Entrata, or similar platforms
- Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial reporting
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple properties and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Preferred
- Experience with commercial real estate, multifamily, retail, office, or industrial properties
- Knowledge of CAM reconciliations, lease accounting, and operating expense allocations
- Experience working directly with property management and asset management teams
- CPA designation or progress toward CPA certification is a plus
