Job Duties
- Lift and move boxes and books from shelving and trays to pallets/carts and from pallets/carts to shelving.
- Push and pull carts weighing up to 500 lbs.
- Load and unload trucks using carts or pallets.
- Stack boxes on pallets, wrap pallets, and move pallets using manual pallet jacks.
- Climb and stand on 6-foot scaffolding to load upper shelves with boxes.
- Log and record cart sequences accurately.
Skills Required
- Read and speak English.
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. repetitively.
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 8 hours daily.
- Ability to bend, squat, and climb ladders.
- Ability to follow directions explicitly.
- Ability to work independently and in team environments.
- Ability to handle delicate materials with care as directed.
Additional Skills Requested
- Experience with order pickers, pallet jacks, carts, hand trucks, pallets, palletizing, and other warehouse equipment.
- Ability to learn and understand Library of Congress (LOC) classification and sequences.
- Previous warehouse or material-handling experience is preferred.
A Typical Day
- Arrive before 8:00 AM.
- Participate in the morning huddle and stretch & flex.
- Receive the day's assignment and report to the assigned floor/work area.
- Use an order selector unit to retrieve boxes from designated shelving in sequence.
- Place boxes weighing an average of 35 lbs., and up to 50 lbs., onto rolling carts or pallets.
- Retrieve approximately 400–600 boxes during an 8-hour shift.
- Fill approximately 15–25 pallets per shift, depending on floor layout and box type.
- Move and stage completed carts/pallets for transport.
- Remove boxes from pallets/carts at the receiving end and place them onto shelves.
