What are the responsibilities and job description for the President of Construction position at 20/20 Foresight Executive Talent Solutions?
Company
Our client is a national leader in multifamily, mixed-use, and active adult development. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, the company has grown from a family business into a sophisticated developer with projects across Texas, Denver, Nashville, Kansas City, and throughout the Sunbelt states.
The company specializes in creating vibrant, high-quality communities that inspire exceptional living experiences for generations. A key differentiator is their in-house construction management capability — opting to self-perform construction on their projects. This vertical integration delivers significant efficiencies in cost, schedule, and quality control, allowing them to maintain close oversight of every detail from preconstruction through project closeout.
Position
We are seeking an experienced and visionary President of Construction to lead our in-house construction operations. Reporting directly to senior leadership (and collaborating closely with the CEO), this executive will own the full lifecycle of construction delivery for our growing pipeline of multifamily and mixed-use developments.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in self-performing multifamily construction, a strong track record of delivering complex projects on time and under budget, and the leadership ability to scale and optimize a high-performing in-house construction team.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and executive oversight for all construction activities, including preconstruction, estimating, procurement, field operations, safety, and project closeout.
- Drive operational excellence across the self-perform construction platform, continuously improving cost efficiency, schedule performance, quality standards, and risk management.
- Lead aggressive value engineering efforts throughout the design and construction phases to optimize project costs while preserving or enhancing design intent, quality, and long-term performance.
- Establish realistic and achievable project budgets and timelines during preconstruction, then maintain rigorous oversight to ensure projects are delivered on or ahead of schedule and within or below budget.
- Partner with the development team to ensure seamless integration between entitlement, design, and construction phases, optimizing project proformas and delivery strategies.
- Build, mentor, and lead a talented in-house construction team (including VPs, preconstruction managers, estimators, superintendents, and project managers).
- Oversee bidding, subcontractor selection, and vendor relationships while leveraging our self-perform capabilities to maximize value and control.
- Champion safety, sustainability, and innovation in construction methods and technology.
- Manage construction budgets, forecasts, and financial performance to meet or exceed company targets.
- Represent the company with owners, lenders, municipalities, architects, engineers, and trade partners at the highest level.
- Identify and implement process improvements, best practices, and technology solutions to enhance project delivery in a competitive multifamily market.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field (advanced degree or relevant certifications a plus).
- 15 years of progressive leadership experience in construction, with a significant focus on multifamily or high-density residential development.
- Proven track record leading in-house/self-perform construction operations for a merchant or multifamily developer (experience scaling a self-perform platform is highly preferred).
- Demonstrated success delivering multiple ground-up multifamily projects ($50M–$200M range) on time and within budget while maintaining exceptional quality.
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to manage large construction budgets and contribute to project underwriting and feasibility.
- Deep knowledge of modern construction methods, prefabrication, lean construction, scheduling software, and cost-control systems.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
