Description:
The Food Services Coordinator monitors the kitchen inventory, develops the kitchen budget, and prepares rotating 5-week meal plans for programs across the organization. The Food Services Coordinator will prepare nutritious foods for the Clifton Residence following a five-week meal plan and in accordance with all health and safety guidelines and meeting the requirements of the licensing agencies. The Food Services Coordinator will prepare meals according to recipes, quality standards, and presentation standards; prepare cold foods with proper handling and storing; and prepare hot foods using ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, and standard kitchen equipment. This position will test foods to determine proper temperature and document temperatures as required. The Food Services Coordinator will monitor food quality while preparing, serving, and storing food; set-up and break down workstations effectively; wash and disinfect the kitchen area, tables, tools, knives, and equipment; and conduct thorough cleaning procedures to meet all regulations.
This position will order foods and inventory for multiple sites across the organization within the budget and will make deliveries to programs across 180 Degrees as needed.
This position will work 20-hours per week at the Minneapolis location which is licensed through the Department of Corrections. The Food Services Coordinator does not have direct reports.
Responsibilities: Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Develop a budget and ensure cost-effective purchases of food and bulk food service supplies.
- Create a 5-week rotating meal plan that is nutritious and provides variety; post monthly meals at each program utilizing the 5-week meal plan.
- Follow health and safety guidelines in all duties and responsibilities; keep kitchens and storage areas clean and organized to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and licensers
- Possess knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for chemicals used to perform functions of the job; keep chemicals and cleaning supplies correctly labeled and safely stored.
- Follow and adhere to Universal Precautions and Infection Control procedures.
- Maintain and rotate inventory using first in first out (FIFO) practices to ensure food quality and minimize waste.
- Prepare, handle, cook, present, and serve food to residents following ServSafe requirements and best-practices; understand and practice food handling, sanitization requirements, pest management, cross-contamination, receiving and storing food, and food safety regulations.
- Meet the Annual Health Inspection standards set by the Health Department.
- Maintain confidentiality of all residents in accordance with confidentiality laws.
- Deliver food and kitchen supplies to the residential programs regularly and as needed.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with a variety of people and personalities internally and externally; effectively handle interactions at all levels and to respond appropriately in sensitive situations.
- Able to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and manage own work; make decisions and solve routine problems independently, effectively, and creatively.
- Train volunteers for shelter sites and use food networks, shelves and donated items to supplement budget. Manage donated items and distribute to program sites.
- Provide excellent customer service to clients and vendors.

- Ensure kitchens are properly stocked with supplies and within budget
- Rotate inventory utilizing the first in first out (FIFO) method to ensure food quality and minimize waste
- Manage vendor contracts and relationships to ensure inventory is ordered and delivered accurately and timely.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must be 21 or older.
- Experience working in a nonprofit community-based organization (preferred).
- Experience working in food services
- Current ServSafe certification or the ability to obtain one upon hire
- Experience working effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and time management skills
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation to independently visit program sites as needed in Twin Cities, St. Cloud, and Rochester.
- Ability to clear a Department of Human Services background screening.
Essential Competencies:
- ServSafe certification required; Food Handler certification preferred.
- 3 years of experience as a cook preferred.
- Must be able to use pots, pans, knives, cooking implements and tools, serving utensils, and industrial refrigerators, freezers, stoves, ovens, and kitchen cleaning equipment effectively and correctly.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and culinary techniques is essential.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow recipes accurately.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask.
- Familiarity with various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.
- A passion for culinary arts and commitment to quality food preparation.
- Manage vendor contracts and relationships
- Knowledge of computer use in Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Strong attention to detail; excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to problem solve, effectively plan and prioritize, and make decisions individually and within a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must pass a background study and fingerprinting
Physical Demands:
This position involves frequent lifting and carrying of heavy pots and bulk items weighing up to 50 pounds; pushing and pulling materials and food carts up to 50 pounds several feet; and loading and unloading inventory. This position involves manual dexterity and visual acuity for kitchen equipment use; the Cook performs repetitive large and small muscle movement throughout the shift, such as turning, bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, and reaching. This position requires visual and reading ability for reading recipes, detailed documents, charts, and reports. The position includes administrative time at a computer to order foods and utilize Microsoft Office products.

Non-Profit Location/Work Environment:
This is an onsite role, Monday - Friday, based at a 180 Degrees residential property in Minneapolis, which is licensed by the Department of Corrections. The environment is fast-paced and requires flexibility, attention to safety, and regular interaction with residents. The employee may be required to work extended or irregular hours to support staffing, events, emergencies, or critical projects.
