Supervises employees who count, weigh and identify items in receiving and shipping department. Ensures that materials are checked against vendors' invoices, bills of lading, customer orders and similar papers. Supervises the maintenance of records of damaged or defective items and discrepancies in quantities and weights, and records time, date, quantity, source and destination of materials received or shipped. Incumbents at this level "lead and direct" a group of two or more individuals. There is virtually no authority for personnel actions normally associated with full supervisory status (e.g., salary increases, promotions, performance reviews, disciplinary actions). "Lead and direct" responsibility may be for either nonexempt or exempt employees. "Leading and directing" is usually restricted to assigning, monitoring and reviewing progress and accuracy of work, directing efforts and providing technical guidance on more complex issues.
