Job Description

Hourly Rate $15.69 plus a $1,000 sign on bonus.
JOB SUMMARY
The Teacher's Aide will service as an assistant to the classroom and its daily functioning. The Teacher's Aide will interact with children and prepare snacks as well as learning materials. They may also participate in the evaluation of student progress through the use of observations, and will assist with light cleaning, restocking, and organizing as needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Program Development & Implementation.
  • Serve as an assistant to the classroom and its daily functioning.
  • Participate in preschool planning meetings as needed to build effective collaborative efforts.
  • Provide input on student progress. Collaborates with team, completing children's assessments.
  • Treat children in developmentally appropriate ways.
  • Serve all children without bias or favoritism.
  • Encourage children's independence and pro-social behavior.
  • Discipline children in a positive, firm, and consistent way.
  • Report incidents to the teacher.
  • Monitor children.
  • Attend special activities.
  • Set up, prepare & clean up snack in classroom.
  • Prepare materials for activities.
  • Set up, clean up materials before and after activities.
  • Lead activities with individual children, small groups, and/or large groups as appropriate.
  • Distribute mail to student lockers.
  • Copy, laminate, bind, etc. for classroom projects.
  • Light cleaning (e.g., tables, sinks, chairs, floor, etc.).
  • Shelves, request supply re-order as needed.
  • Do furniture moving related to classroom arrangement and organization.
  • Set up, prepare & clean up snack for all groups (except extended day program).
  • Monitor space for safety, cleanliness.
  • Maintain an organized inventory.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Experience and Skills
EDUCATION
  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) and 12 credits of Early Childhood Education or Child Development, or enrolled in CDA program preferred; experience working in an early childhood educational setting a must.
EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience working with young children and their families.
  • Enjoys working as a part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Must demonstrate the following teaching practices:
  • Belief that teachers and children are active partners in the learning process. This balanced approach to adult-child interaction - also called "intentional teaching" - is critical to the effectiveness of the program.
  • That the design of the classroom space and the location of the materials can promote active learning. The classroom is divided into interest areas organized around specific kinds of play; for example, block area, house area, small toy area, book area, sand-and-water area, and art area.
  • By having a daily routine, it will provide a balanced variety of experiences and learning opportunities. Children engage in both individual and social play, participate in small- and large- group activities, assist with cleanup, socialize during meals, develop self-care skills, and exercise their small and large muscles.
