Overview

The Lead Maintenance Technician is responsible for leading the Maintenance Technicians in providing the overall maintenance of warehouse/transload facilities and all campus and off-site trailer yards. Through Service Now system and using work order process, prioritizes and ensures repair and maintenance activities are efficiently completed based on safety, production, and security priorities. Lead trains technicians and oversees the proper use of all tools and equipment, following specifications, blueprints, manuals, and schematic drawings, using hand tools, power tools, fork lift, and measuring and testing instruments.

Responsibilities

• Leads, coaches and trains Maintenance technician I and II to provide safe working techniques, improve proficiency, knowledge, and skills in all repair and maintenance areas as noted in essential duties and responsibilities.

• Conducts regular safety inspections on the building, grounds and equipment including but not limited to, roofing, masonry, plumbing, HVAC, lighting, fire systems, exit doors, dock levelers, dock doors, pallet racking, storm drainage and fire system pumps.

• Inspects and tests machinery and equipment, and diagnoses mechanical problems. Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts, following specifications and blueprints, using precision measuring instruments and hand tools

• Installs fabricates, modifies, demolishes conveyors, equipment, offices and other structures. 

• Prepares estimates including materials, labor, and time needed for assigned projects.

• Demonstrates proficiency basic plumbing, electric, woodworking, sprinkler system, pump testing MIG, Arc and Gas Welding.

• Maintains savings tracking for maintenance area improvements and creates Kaizen worksheets for facilities process improvements

• Recommends, where applicable, repair and maintenance by outside contractors where job is beyond the scope of maintenance team. Monitors and inspects project completion and quality.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and five (5) years minimum experience as a maintenance technician in a related industry or three years’ experience with a trade school equivalent to two years’ experience.
