ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Community Health Coordinator, you will be responsible for the support of the YMCA’s Federal Child Nutrition Programs, the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), and the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). You will be responsible for administrative assistance of these federal meal programs, including CACFP and SFSP site audits, weekly CACFP and SFSP site ordering, nutrition education for child participants, and efforts to enhance meal participation and consumption while reducing food waste. This position is contingent upon continued grant support.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Implements a results-based approach and ensures service line/department is actively working towards association-level objectives by assessing progress towards identified goals/KPIs, provides ongoing coaching and feedback, and discusses development opportunities
  • Works with the Nutrition Director of Year-Round Meal Programs to ensure CACFP and SFSP sites meet federal meal program requirements by assisting with the implementation of CACFP and SFSP site audits, logistic planning, sanitary meal preparation, and service, accurate recordkeeping, central kitchen support
  • Assists with annual submission of CACFP and SFSP grant applications.
  • Travels to sites and monitors site operations on a regular basis while working closely with youth services staff to ensure that meal services meet CACFP and SFSP guidelines. Act as the primary point of contact for site directors regarding CACFP and SFSP policies.
  • Ensures accuracy of claims to state agencies.
  • Assists with food procurement from local vendors and food service management companies.
  • Develops and fosters relationships with local vendors and food service management companies.
  • Coordinates weekend meal orders, deliveries, activities, and staffing for CACFP and SFSP sites and ensures compliance with CACFP and SFSP policies. Compile meal count forms on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Supports Nutrition education by delivering nutrition-based programs, such as Cooking Matters, and instructing cooking demos for youth and adults.
  • Performs all other tasks as assigned.

ABOUT YOU

Qualifications

  • 2 years of professional experience in program leadership and/or community engagement
  • Must be willing to drive a box truck and completion of YMCA of Western North Carolina Driver Training upon hire is required
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, highly preferred but not required.
  • ServSafe or other food safety certification, preferred but not required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
  • Requires strong organizational skills, prioritization of workloads in order to meet deadlines, as well as detail orientation and conscientiousness.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, public relations, and communications skills with a strong understanding of participants’ cultures, values, and health practices/ beliefs and
  • Comfortability in both office and community-based work environments.
