YMCA of the Triangle is Hiring a Certification Instructor-A.E. Finley YMCA Near Raleigh, NC

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Certification Instructor’s primary responsibility is to lead and instruct safety certification classes to YMCA of the Triangle employees. Classes include Basic Life Support, Basic First Aid, Emergency Oxygen Administration, YMCA V6 Swim Instructor, YMCA of the USA V6 Lifeguard and American Red Cross Lifeguard.

They are responsible for managing these functions in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.

Additional Information: Certification instructor to run American Red Cross courses including Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, First Aid, Oxygen.

Job Schedule (Days): Monday-Sunday

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains current certifications required to teach and completes any required continuing education courses to maintain active certification.
  • Creates classes in the online training center and sends out pre-work to participants.
  • Communicates class details via email to participants.
  • Ensures participants have completed all pre-work and are eligible to attend the in-person portion of class.
  • Takes attendance and maintains all written rosters.
  • Completes and maintains all required course documentation including but not limited to: daily class rosters, daily class syllabus, skills check-offs, and written exams.
  • Ensures all class materials are in order prior to class and communicates to their supervisor any replacement equipment needed or any repairs to equipment that are needed.
  • Communicates course material to participants in a clear and understandable manner and can adjust teaching style as needed to ensure participant comprehension.
  • Teaches in accordance to the requirements of the certifying body.
  • Provides constructive feedback to participants throughout the class time.
  • Administers written tests and observes skills in assessment, care, and follow-up.
  • Adheres to all certification standards in class instruction and administration.
  • Distributes certification cards to class participants upon successful completion of all certification requirements.
  • Organizes and turns in all class records in a timely manner.
  • Cleans and returns all class supplies to the Program Director.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interations.
  • Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current instructor or trainer level certifications in Basic Life Support, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen administration from the American Red Cross, American Safety and Health Institute, American Heart Association, or National Safety Council
  • Must possess a high level of initiate, professionalism, positive attitude and enjoy working in and creating a strong team environment.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills a must.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Multi-lingual desired but not required.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Compliance with all COVID related PPE, cleaning, reporting and prevention expectations efforts. Further training and detail will be provided upon question and/or hire.
