YMCA of South Florida is Hiring a YD Broward - Lead Counselor, LEAP, 23-24 School Year Near Fort Lauderdale, FL

If you are passionate about the field of Education, enjoy on-going training, helping others grow, and have a sincere desire to cultivate our next generation of children, the YMCA's Lead Counselor position is for you! We are currently looking for an outgoing, energetic, team-oriented and driven individual to join our team. Under the direction of the Site Supervisor, the After School Lead Counselor is responsible for the overall day-to-day group programming, behavior management, and direct supervision of children or adolescents enrolled in the after-school/day camp program.

Essential Functions:
  • Direct services include: schedule, supervise, and lead efforts of the counselor(s) in assisting teachers with academic enrichment, recreation, and tutoring, and coordinating the transition of actively participating LEAP High students during the program.
  • Lead the planning, scheduling of counselor(s) and ensure that counselor(s) performs optimally during the instruction of non-academic components.
  • Provide initial quality assurance checks with attendance data.
  • Ensure that documentation is collected from site personnel and submitted to the provider on a timely basis.
  • Perform administrative duties including data entry and student attendance tracking and reporting.
  • Distribute nutritious snacks/ supper on a daily basis using universal health/sanitation practices.
  • Document or report behavior issues and/or incidents daily, as needed.
  • Maintain high level of professional courtesy with parents, facility personnel, staff and clients at all times.
  • Know and follow proper emergency procedures appropriate to the facility and in conformity with procedures adopted by the YMCA of South Florida and emergency service authorities to ensure the safety of children.
  • Preserve the quality of supplies, equipment and materials. Ensuring proper supply by reporting re-order needs to the Site Supervisor.
  • Document all necessary administrative forms as directed by Site Supervisor and/or Program Director.
  • Attendance at all staff meetings and training opportunities.
  • Formally report all incidents and accidents within 24 hours to the corporate office.
  • Adhere to the Child Abuse & Neglect Reporting requirements, which mandate by law all childcare personnel to report suspicions of child abuse, neglect, or abandonment. The YMCA requires employees to follow the internal reporting procedures with the assistance of the Program Directors.
  • Ensure that the proper staff-to-child ratios is maintained at all times and reports discrepancies to the Site Supervisor, as needed.
  • Assist the Site Supervisor in any other appropriate ways as directed.
Position Profile:
  • Outgoing personality enjoys speaking to people.
  • Innate desire to provide excellent customer service.
  • Detailed Oriented with strong clerical skills.
Job Requirements :
  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 1 (one) year experience working with adolescent population.
  • Ability to relate to children and adolescents.
  • The Lead Counselor must be at least eighteen (18) years-old at the time of hire.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing.
  • Must have a demonstrated competency in the planning and implementation of recreational and educational activities.
Certificates and Licenses:
  • Within one (1) year of employment, you must have completed the following DCF Trainings:
    • The Thirty (30) Hour Training Requirement consisting of (a) Child Growth and Development, (b) Health, Safety and Nutrition, (c) Child Care Facility State and Local Rules and Regulations, (d) Identifying and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect, and (e) Behavior Observation and Screening.
    • The Ten (10) Hour Developmentally Appropriate Module (Preferred- School Age Appropriate Practices).
  • Current CPR and First Aid certificates by time of employment.
After School positions are year-round part-time positions; typical hours are Monday through Friday 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Staff Members are expected to move into a summer camp position in June for the summer, then move back to an after school counselor.
As a condition of employment, you will be required to submit to and satisfactorily clear a thorough Level II fingerprinting background screening and drug test.
As a Drug-Free Workplace, all new hires must successfully complete a urinalysis within 72 hours of notice. Failure to complete the drug test within this timeframe will automatically disqualify you from employment. Please note Medical Marijuana cards do not exempt you from successfully passing your drug test.
