Ranch Program Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Ranch Program Coordinator will be responsible during the summer for providing leadership and overseeing all aspects of the horseback riding program. This includes a herd of 25 horses and 10-15 program staff. Outside of the summer, they will assist with our Outdoor Center programs and marketing/growth of our summer programs. Additionally, this role will be responsible for the well-being and care of the camp mini farm, including any year-round horses.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Oversee riding instructors in the development of lesson plans for various levels that stay within the curriculum parameters for 12 to 15 hours of group lesson instruction over two weeks.

2. Manage and care for all equipment and facilities related to the riding program.

3. Under the guidance of the Associate Executive Director, accountable for budget development and management of the program budget.

4. Maintain all state and American Camping Association standards and keep detailed records of horses, equipment, and care.

5. Assist with hiring of Ranch staff.

6. Develop and implement staff training.

7. Serve as a member of the management team, assisting with special events, programming, and committees as assigned.

8. Assist with Outdoor Center programming outside of summer, including hosting programs.

9. Assist with the creation, communication, marketing, and implementation of innovative and progressive programming for summer Ranch programs.

10. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be at least 20 years of age.

2. Must be certified by CHA or ARIA Level 2 (minimum) or BHS or other ACA-recognized horsemanship certification, or ability to attain within the first 60 days of hiring.

3. Must have documentable riding and teaching experience.

4. Previous experience working with “camp” or “lesson” horses.

5. Preferred experience with barn management skills.

6. Possess skills including supervision of staff, organization, and knowledge of summer camp activities and working with children.

7. Two years of college or equivalent work experience.

8. Current certification in Wilderness First Aid or Standard First Aid and CPR is required within 30 days of hire.

9. Must have a valid driver’s license.

10. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

11. Must have the physical ability to be active during the summer season for workdays approximately 16 hours per day and to navigate rough terrain on foot.

12. Ability to lift up to 50lbs and transport feed/grain/hay from one location to another.

13. Must have demonstrated strong leadership skills, the ability to multi-task, be detail-oriented, and have strong organizational skills.

14. Ability to live on-site (preferred)
