Markets Analyst

We are seeking either a Markets Analyst II to join our Market Monitoring team. As a Markets Analyst at Yes Energy you will apply your research and analysis skills across an array of challenges in support of our efforts in nodal power markets; from market research on policy changes and data developments to identifying trends in the industry that may impact our clients. In this role, candidates will have an opportunity to build on their knowledge of energy markets and help guide our company through this rapidly evolving transition. The ideal candidate for this role will have in-depth expertise in nodal power markets, including realtime, day ahead and FTR trading, as well as regulatory policies & planning. This role will build on this expertise by analyzing market events to understand underlying market forces, and identify dynamic, emerging trends. In this role, you will act as not only a liaison to clients utilizing our products, but a desire to share this knowledge and curiosity both internally and externally. We are looking for candidates that are passionate about the future of the energy industry and are excited to become an active participant with our clients and data providers.

This position will be located in one of our core offices in the US: Boulder, CO, Chicago IL, Boston MA, Richmond VA.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Market Research & Analysis – Research and document technical and market changes across the North American energy markets. Analyze the key drivers of noteworthy pricing events and emerging market trends. Independently produce reports, as well as publish analyses to help keep Yes Energy staff & customers abreast of market changes.

  • Market Expertise – Continue to build a subject matter expertise on ISO and key power markets. Provide this expertise to clients in response to direct inquiries and personal engagement. Attend conferences on market changes, policy positions, and other evolving market trends that potentially affect market participants.

  • Liaison with Data Providers -- Foster direct, collaborative relationships with ISO / RTOs and other data providers as a part of building a collaborative partnership. Participate in ISO policy meetings to understand current and upcoming changes and provide reports to internal stakeholders on critical changes.

  • Analysis – Research the key drivers of noteworthy pricing events and emerging market trends and produce insightful analysis for publication. Produce reports for public distribution, conference presentations, and marketing materials.

  • Collaboration – Partner with the entire Product team, Market Data Operations, Customer Operations, and senior leadership to identify opportunities to utilize your knowledge & expertise and contribute to strategy for product development where possible.

  • Client Relations – Help our clients make the very best use of our products and in-depth knowledge. Assist customer operations by responding to client market-focused inquiries, as well as detailed questions on Yes Energy data and market insights.

  • Business Requirements Gathering - Assist Data Product Owners in creating technical requirements for new data collections and liaise with the Market Data Operations team to alert to data modifications.

  • Communication – Coordinate with our Data Product Owner, Product Managers and other stakeholders to effectively communicate policy and publication updates from our data sources.

What you bring to Yes Energy

  • Proven expertise in energy data & policy analysis

  • 2-3 years experience in an energy market position

  • 2-3 years experience analyzing power market data & events

  • Exceptional communication, presentation & writing skills

  • Experience engaging with customers or data providers to build working relationships

  • Quick study with a strong attention to detail and self-motivated

  • Experience working with relational databases and leveraging data for analysis

  • Demonstrated experience with SQL or Snowflake

  • BS / BA degree in economics, policy, journalism or finance-related field or advanced degree

What will set you apart from other candidates?

  • PL/SQL & Python a plus

  • Written or published articles and/or analysis

  • History in Customer Support or working directly with customers or consulting

Compensation and Benefits

We offer strongly competitive salaries and real bonuses that are achievable and that you can impact. Our benefits package is also very competitive and it includes medical insurance, 401K Plan with matching, flexible vacation and flexible work schedules. Base Compensation Range: $65,000 - $80,000

In accordance with Colorado law, the range provided is Yes Energy’s reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role. The actual amount may be higher or lower, based on non-discriminatory factors such as location, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.
