Reports to: Chief Schools Officer Pay: $119,235, starting; Salary Schedule

Special: Requires weekend work, nights 

and early mornings, as needed

Ingenium Schools currently operates several charter schools, serving students throughout Los Angeles.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The principal is responsible for maintaining a positive, safe, and collaborative school environment in which student performance continuously improves through Ingenium School’s personalized mastery learning model. The principal provides instructional, operational, and administrative leadership to ensure the school’s success. Ingenium Schools’ principals should embrace quality systems and tools and exhibit collaboration, innovation, and positivity. The principal reports to the Chief Schools Officer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & JOB DUTIES:

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

NETWORK CONTRIBUTIONS:

  • Support the mission, vision, and core values of Ingenium Schools
  • Strive to implement, by instruction and action, Ingenium Schools’ philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
  • Continuously maintain and improve professional competence
  • Maintain and model high standards of professional conduct
  • Attend mandatory trainings, professional meetings, and educational conferences, as required

Support Academic Programs

  • Provide leadership, direction, and support in the formulation, implementation, and annual adjustment of the school’s instructional program.
  • Ensure effective implementation of the Ingenium Learning System (ILS).
  • Oversee, support, and increase effectiveness of teachers in monitoring and improving student growth and achievement through multi-level, data-driven action plans.
  • Lead a school-wide process for staff to analyze data and continually improve all aspects of teaching and learning.
  • Administer the academic policies determined by the Board of Trustees, the Executive Leadership Team, and local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Provide instructional leadership in advancing research-based teaching and learning practices.
  • Support the development of interventions, enrichment, and other student support systems.
  • Provide extracurricular activities that tie to academic support.

Support and Empower Staff:

  • Select instructional staff with the knowledge, skills, and beliefs to ensure each child reaches high levels of academic achievement, in accordance with the standards and processes.
  • Supervise, support, coach, and evaluate instructional staff to ensure quality instruction and student achievement.
  • Recommend, support, and monitor the instructional staff professional development program to improve student achievement and continuously improve instruction.
  • Recruit, select, and hire school staff, including school-based support staff and (in collaboration with the academic director) instructional staff.
  • Create an effective team of people jointly responsible for attainment of school goals and committed to achieving excellence.
  • Build on the strengths of staff and recognize improvement and achievement.
  • Support and monitor the development of non-instructional staff and implementation of non-instructional program improvements.
  • Lead the staff in the selection and implementation of resources (time, curriculum, human) to improve student achievement.

Communicate and Collaborate:

  • Demonstrate empathy, compassion, and understanding with all stakeholders.
  • Collaboratively build with all stakeholders, through the shared vision process, an effort-based school culture of high expectations for all students throughout the school community.
  • Collaboratively communicate and develop the vision that supports the school’s goals and articulate and model the school’s values.
  • Engage the active support of parents and community members in support of the education of all the students in the school, and serve as a spokesperson for the school in the community and elsewhere.
  • Work to prevent individual and system-wide challenging behaviors by collaborating with adults and students and utilizing Ingenium's data management tools.
  • Continually improve: proactively look for ways to improve skills and processes.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Monitor Operation and Compliance:

  • Oversee compliance in testing, admissions, special education, and other instructional areas.
  • Participate in required IEP meetings and collaborate with staff to support special education students.
  • Establish and maintain a close working relationship with the Compton Unified School District (CUSD) Board of Education, the CUSD Charter Division, shared campus administration and staff, and other important local agencies.
  • Administer the school policies determined by Ingenium Schools Board of Trustees and Superintendent as well as the applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Develop and manage, with the Executive Leadership Team, the school budget in alignment with the school improvement plan (LCAP).
  • Manage the student recruitment and enrollment process.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations and policies.
  • Ensure a safe and orderly environment
  • Direct the enforcement of school policies and rules of student conduct, including decisions regarding the suspension or expulsion of students from the school.
  • Attend mandatory training as required by the position.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Common Core State Standards in curriculum, instruction and assessment
  • Learner-centered instructional practices
  • Learning theory and brain research for educational best practices
  • Quality systems and experience in applying them in an educational setting
  • Effective practices for creating intrinsically motivating environments
  • Urban children and their families, especially those represented in the school’s student population

ABILITY TO:

  • Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing
  • Inspire and coach adults to build staff capacity
  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously while prioritizing projects and assignment

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION/LICENSE

  • Application of Quality Learning in own elementary classroom as a teacher before seeking administrative role preferred
  • A California Administrative Services credential (or out-of-state equivalent) preferred
  • A clear California teaching credential (or out-of-state equivalent) preferred
  • Experience implementing high academic standards and rigorous curricula
  • Evidence of student achievement in past roles
  • Experience as an elementary principal preferred
  • A Master’s degree in education and at least two years of educational administrative experience preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
  • CPR and 1st Aid preferred
