General Purpose and Scope of Position:

The Maintenance Mechanic will be responsible for overseeing and conducting all maintenance tasks at Wilbur-Ellis's two Pet Nutrition locations in St. Joseph, Mo. The position will be responsible for all maintenance tasks that are necessary to keep each facility running at optimal capacity and efficiency. This position will be the main point of contact for operations staff to solve problems with machinery and equipment.

Key Skills and Abilities Include:

  • At least 2 years of maintenance experience in manufacturing or other related field. An Associate Degree or Technical Degree in a pertinent field is a bonus
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing environments or manufacturing experience
  • Knowledge of Preventative Maintenance programs and how to implement these in a manufacturing facility
  • Ability to multi-task and problem-solve in manufacturing environments
  • Ability to implement and oversee company policy
  • Ability to evaluate mechanical problems and implement solutions
  • Ability to lift up to 55 lbs.
  • Ability to travel to both locations within St. Joseph on a daily basis. No known fear of heights and ability to climb ladders
  • Preferred- experience and skills in many facets of industrial operations including electrical, bearings, chains, shafts, belts, electric motors, pneumatics, PLC, schematics, sensors/switches, plumbing, welding, etc.

Preferred Skills or Certifications:

  • Mechanical knowledge of feed/pet food processing equipment such as mixers, screw conveyors, hammer mills, grain legs

Specific Responsibilities and Key Deliverables Include:

  • Conduct all maintenance-related tasks for both Ameri-Mill and Ameri-Pac locations in St. Joseph
  • Lead by example. This is a hands-on role
  • Work with location management to coordinate major equipment repair, monitor parts inventory levels, and maintain written machinery maintenance SOPs
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance programs to meet mechanical needs and ensure compliance with quality standards
  • Ability to work off hours when needed, including but not limited to nights and weekends
  • Confer with operations management teams as it pertains to equipment breakdowns and potential issues with our facilities
  • Handle fabrication duties for various small projects within each facility
  • Follow up on any and all corrective actions that require maintenance oversite
  • Respond quickly to emergency maintenance situations and provide contractor oversite when needed to provide a solution
  • Work directly with contractors to ensure 3rd party work is completed safely and meets quality specifications
  • Oversee and manage equipment list and assess new equipment for preventative maintenance needs and failure points
  • Assist safety and quality teams when needed to insure compliance with regulatory rules and regulations
  • Responsible for reporting mechanical and electrical problems to management, up to and including stopping a production line.
  • Ensure compliance with all Food Safety Guidelines, Ameri-Pac work rules, Ameri-Pac Standard Operating Procedures, FDA and OSHA guidelines, as well as Federal and State laws governing the workplace.
  • Other duties as assigned

Compensation and Benefits:

  • In compliance with all states and cities that require transparency of pay, the base compensation for this position ranges from $20.43 - $25.53 per hour. Note that wages may vary based on location, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for vacation, holidays, health, dental, vision, mental health, retirement plans, and other benefits.
