Role Purpose

The Operations Manager is accountable for leading the manufacturing and distribution functions for the Ontario facility. Role supports, directs and manages the operational staff. Role will direct and ensure excellence in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and People through the deployment and execution of robust systems and processes.

Supports and leads the operations team at Ontario.

Core Accountabilities

• General Operations
• Champion the “Safety First Culture”
• Lead safety initiatives as identified and support the VPP safety and certification process
• Direct and build a high-performing team through effective leadership techniques and training

• Manage variable costs by deploying strategies to flex costs and achieve targeted variable unit costs per pound
• Champion the WMS Operational Excellence platform to drive sustainable transformation and business results
• Support execution of capital projects and plans, driven by site operational needs and overall strategic needs
• Champion a “zero defect” culture through the deployment of effective quality systems and ISO standards
• Support the design and execution of maintenance systems to achieve equipment reliability and capability
• Ensure that manufacturing and production meet customer needs efficiently with a quality product
• Assist with hiring, training, managing and scheduling personnel to meet the customer demand
• Ensure the plant is safe and all equipment is safe to operate and in good working order
• Ensure manufacturing and distribution operates safely and consistently
• Champion “customer excellence” through best-in-class delivery performance
• Ensure facility meets site-specific safety, financial, quality and service goals
• Support the Regional Operations Manager with initiatives as requested
• Materials Management/Supply Chain/MRO
• Work collaterally to execute S&OP plans that target high levels of delivery performance with the least amount of working capital / inventory.
• Coordinate with production on proper finished goods inventory levels for stock and customer stocking programs
• Evaluate current process flow of incoming & outgoing material and make necessary improvements
• Review all product stock categories for sales and sales history and requisition as necessary
• Set stocking levels and negotiate with vendors as needed for all related goods & services
• Makes sure inventory is accounted for and in sellable condition
• Handle some non-metal related purchase orders
• Place orders for buyouts with vendors
• Human Resources
• Reconciles and submits hourly employee timecards weekly
• Submits salaried employee hours & time off bi-weekly
• Keeps track of hourly and salaried time off
• Building Operations
• Maintain the security and integrity of the building, equipment and property
• Includes branch-related permits, audits, reviews, and capital expenditure requests

Competencies and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Manufacturing/Operations, or an equivalent level of experience.
• Previous experience or knowledge of manufacturing and distribution of non-ferrous metal strongly preferred.
• At least five years of relevant industry experience with a minimum of two years in supervisory role.
• Critical computer skills required - Microsoft Office Suite, Oracle, Learning Management System.
• Strong decision-making ability to bring people and information together for timely decisions.
• Ability to influence and shape the course of action through persuasion and negotiations.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal communication skills and organization skills.
• Strong analytical ability to employ a systematic approach to problem solving.
• Ability to manage a diverse group of people and departments.
• Experience managing, coaching, and mentoring others.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
