The Director, Global Environmental Health Safety (EHS) plays a crucial role in driving EHS excellence and fostering a safety-focused organizational culture. This role has responsibility for leading a team that establishes and maintains efficient systems and practices to ensure compliance with Environmental, Health, and Safety regulations. Leads the development and implementation of Superior Essex Global Safety Strategy and works closely with leaders worldwide to enhance all aspects of Environment, Health, and Safety performance. This role also acts as the primary company contact for regulatory agencies such as OSHA, EPA, and all other applicable.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead the global Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHS S) function. Demonstrate accountability and responsibility for EHS S performance and compliance through active participation and promotion of our Company's EHS S Program.
  • Assure compliance objectives and team goals are achieved per requirements schedule.
  • Provide expert advice and technical guidance for EHS S programs and projects.
  • Serve as key person accountable for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the EHS management system.
  • Monitor and assess EH S performance metrics across all sites.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate EH S considerations into business processes.
  • Lead and inspire a global team of EH S professionals, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to drive excellence in safety and environmental performance.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance EH S awareness and competencies.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety and environmental practices.
  • Identify and assess EH S risks at a global level. Develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans.
  • Ensure timely reporting and resolution of incidents, accidents, and near misses.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership, site managers, and functional heads to promote EH S awareness.
  • Review and/or approve regulatory permits, inspection outcomes and audit report findings to assure appropriate submission, impact, and/or action.
  • Engage with regulatory agencies, industry groups, and external partners to stay informed about best practices and emerging trends.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Occupational Health, Engineering, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in EH S leadership roles.
  • Strong knowledge of global EH S regulations and standards.
  • Minimum 5 years leading global EHS S functions; must have experience in Asia and Europe.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity and experience with EH S Data Management Systems Lean principles.
  • Experience working with all levels of employees, including executive management.
  • Ability to synthesize data and deliver it succinctly.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (approximately 40% travel required).
  • This is an on-site position, which is located in either Atlanta, Georgia or Fort Wayne, Indiana.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or equivalent.
