Overview:

WGI is seeking an Innovation and Virtual Design & Construction (IVDC) leader in support of our transportation team.

WGI is a national thought leader on innovation and technology and looking for the right IVDC leader to work as part of the transportation team to advance our digital delivery capabilities. This role will also lead efforts on innovation and technology advancement for the division. This role will also be part of the broader WGI innovation team working with the Chief Innovation Officer to advance our digital capabilities enterprise wide.

The WGI Transportation team is an award-winning group delivering some of the most significant and iconic projects in the southeastern united states. This role is both strategic and tactical, leading efforts to shape the future of our transportation project delivery by harnessing the latest technologies and elevating the capabilities and performance of our transportation teams. The IVDC will lead projects to integrate, automate, and enhance our digital delivery and workflows and contribute to the success of delivering exceptional projects and technology solutions.

The successful candidate will specialize in highway and bridge digital workflows, technology, project execution, and innovation and will be responsible for the strategic digital initiatives for WGIs transportation division. They will collaborate with national and regional practice leadership, project, and technical managers. The activities will fall under three distinct pillars.

  • Leveraging the existing tools such as Open Roads Designer and Open Bridge Designer to improve performance, consistency, quality, and efficiency.
  • Advancing solutions that provide a unique value proposition for our clients.

Developing and/or implementing tools, techniques, or applications to further our goals of improved margin, quality, automation, and enhanced delivery and the continued advancement of our digital transformation.

Responsibilities:

This is a collaborative role with technology and domain experts within the division, innovation, information technology, and across the enterprise.

Leadership & Strategy:

  • Perform a digital tools and innovation assessment documenting the current state of maturity of the digital tools and innovation currently. This should begin with interviews with the division leadership and technical experts.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive digital tools and innovation strategy for the delivery of highway and bridge projects, including alternative delivery projects, leveraging best practices, industry standards, and emerging technologies. This should start with the identified needs, opportunities, and gaps identified by the team.
  • Design and optimize digital workflows for bridge and highway projects to improve efficiency and project outcomes.
  • Lead project production efforts in the use of Building Information Systems (BIM) and Bridge Information Systems (BrIM) to support the design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure projects in partnership and collaboration with our Information Technology, Senior Project Technology Specialist.
  • Recommend digital technologies and tools suitable for bridge and highway projects. Oversee the implementation and integration of BIM/BrIM/VDC software, hardware, and systems across the National Bridge, Highway, and Rail projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to project teams for the successful execution of BIM/BrIM/VDC processes throughout the project lifecycle. Ensure adherence to quality standards.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs to educate project teams on bridge and highway BIM/BrIM/VDC workflows, tools, and best practices. Foster a culture of continuous learning and knowledge-sharing throughout the organization.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among multidisciplinary teams, including planners, architects, engineers, contractors, and external stakeholders. Coordinate with practice and project leadership to ensure seamless integration of BIM/BrIM/VDC processes into overall project management.
  • Implement quality assurance measures to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance within industry standards in BIM/BrIM/VDC deliverables. Conduct regular audits and reviews to identify and rectify any issues or deviations
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, advancements, and emerging technologies related to bridge and highway BIM/BrIM/VDC. Identify opportunities for innovation and propose new solutions to enhance project outcomes and efficiencies.
  • The Innovation and VDC Lead will also represent the transportation division on the WGI Innovation Council working directly with the Chief Innovation Officer, division innovation engineers, and other professionals from across the enterprise.

Qualifications:

Required Project Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (Masters degree preferred)
  • Professional engineering license (PE) or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment and other relevant certifications.
  • 7-10 years experience in 3-D Design/BIM/BrIM/VDC management
  • In-depth knowledge of digital engineering workflows, processes, and best practices
  • Proficiency in Bentley OpenRoads (ORD), OpenBridge (OBD), SYNCHRO; Bluebeam Revu, etc.
  • Strong understanding of bridge and highway design and construction
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with project teams, external partners, and vendors
  • Proven track record of innovation and creativity in the use of BIM/BrIM/VDC technology on large scale infrastructure projects
  • Experience with data management and analysis, including the use of GIS and other spatial data technologies.
  • Strong leadership and technical guidance skills, with the ability to mentor and train less experienced engineers and other team members
  • Strong understanding of construction methods and techniques, including the use of prefabricated components and modular construction.
  • Experience with Alternative Project delivery a plus
  • Experience with project management software and tools, such as Primavera P6 Schedules, or Microsoft Project
  • Background in project controls for infrastructure projects using various industry document control software, such as ProjectWise, SharePoint, Procore, Aconex, a plus
  • Understanding of Blockchain, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Technologies and their application in supporting the integration and use within the infrastructure industry
